The title of this research is "The Struggle to Find Identity as Seen in Mark Twain's Novel The Adventurs of Toms Sawyer". The problem of this research is focused on Tom's struggles using Kennedy's (2016) theory, Tom's adventures which reflect his true identity using Mark and June's (2012) theory and external conflicts experienced by Tom as reflected in Mark Twain's novel The Adventures of Tom Sawyer using Kenny's (1966) theory. The approach used in this research is psychology. This research is a qualitative descriptive research. The technique used in this study is a documentary based on Mason. The results of this study indicate that all of Tom's struggles in this novel are based on the majority of people who always think that Tom is a delinquent, naughty boy. And Tom's struggle to get the girl he loves so much. It took a struggle to prove that Tom was actually a good boy. The adventures of Tom, who is looking for his true identity, is caused by the people of evaluate, that Tom is a very naughty child and the attitude of the whole society, which is often unpleasant, finally makes him look for happiness or pleasure with adventure, which in the end, his adventures make his identity change from the beginning. always known as a naughty child who turns into a good, smart child and becomes a role model in the village. The external conflict occurs because sometimes humans disagree with other people because of their mischief.

This research is motivated by the existence of external and internal conflicts that are manifested by the author in the novel My Sister's Keeper by Jodi Picoult. The purpose of this research is to identify the external conflict experienced by Kate, analyze the inner conflict experienced by the characters Anna and Kate and the causes of external conflict and inner conflict in the novel My Sister's Keeper by Jodi Picoult. This method used in this research is descriptive qualitative. The data in this novel are excerpts of words, sentences related to the external conflict in Anna's character and the inner conflict of Anna and Kate's characters. The data collection techniques in this research were reading, marking data, recording and distinguishing the data collected based on external conflicts and inner conflicts in the novel My Sister's Keeper by Jodi Picoult. The results of this research indicate that in the novel My Sister Keeper by Jodi Picoult, Anna's external conflict is caused by her own family, especially her mother, the inner conflict between Anna and Kate's characters, namely, Id, Ego, and Superego. The research discusses the linguistic sign on the name of the carvings of Rumah Gadang in Sungai Beringin Payakumbuh. The names of the carvings were found based on interviews and direct observations made with the owner of the Sanggar ukir in the village of Nunang Payakumbuh Barat. This research aims to find out the signifier and signified contained in the carvings of the name of the Rumah Gadang. In addition, this research also analyzed the meaning of the name carvings of the Rumah Gadang. The theory used in this research is semiotics, which refers to Chandler theory of linguistic signs. This research was conducted using qualitative descriptive research. The results of the research found that 26 carvings of the name Rumah Gadang Sungai Beringin came from natural patterns and were related to the natural philosophy espoused by the Minangkabau people. In conclusion, carvings are analyzed from signifier and signified, the denotation and connotation meaning and cultural meanings contained in the name of the carvings of the Rumah Gadang.
