Objective To evaluate the CT and MRI diagnostic value of inflammatory myofibroblastic tumor(IMT) and to correlate CT and MRI findings with pathology. Methods The findings of CT and MRI imaging in 8 cases with operation and pathology proved IMT were reviewed. And analysed on pathology and imaging findings to evaluate the pathologic bases of CT and MRI expression. Results Among the 8 cases, The main CT signs of IMT showed as follows: 2cases were relatively homogeneous in density, the other 5 cases were nonhomogeneous density. The central low intenstive could be seen inside the tumor in 5 cases. After injecting contrast medium,3 of 5cases were obviously uneven enhanced. Neighboring bone were destructed in 3 cases. On MRI imaging, one case even enhancement. Another case around the high aparent heterogeneous enhancement. Fibroblast proliferation and large amounts of inflammatory cell infiltration could be seen pathologically. Conclusion CT and MRI findings of extrapulmonary IMT are well corresponded with pathology. CT and MRI examinations can help to make the diagnosis and differential diagnosis. It is very useful for mapping the extension of IMT, Relationship with adjacent organs, choosing the perfect treatment ways and preoperative diagnosis.
