To contribute to improving the management of patients with heart failure and anemia in Brazzaville, a prospective and descriptive study was conducted in the University Hospital of Brazzaville for nine months (January 1st to September 30, 2017). Included 57 patients hospitalized for left or global heart failure and presenting anemia. Anemia was defined by an haemoglobin level < 12 g/dL in men and <11 g/dL in women. Proportionings of the reticulocytes rate, serum iron, ferritin, erythrocyte sedimentation rate (ESR) and/or C-reactive protein (CRP), electrophoresis of proteins, and evaluation of renal function by glomerular filtration rate (GFR), as well as the treatments of heart failure, and the auxiliary therapeutic ones, in particular the antithrombotic drugs, allowed aetiologic research. They were 20 men (35%) and 37 women (65%), old on average of 59 ± 17 years. The average rate of haemoglobin was 11.4 ± 1.4 g/dL. Heart failure was de novo in 24 cases (42.1%), old in 33 cases (57.9%); it was global in 54 cases (94.7%).The maintenance treatment associated diuretics in 32 cases (97%), angiotensin-converting enzyme inhibitor (ACEI) or angiotensin II receptor blocker (ARB) in 31 cases (94%), beta-blockers in two cases (6.1%), digoxin in four cases (12.1%), aspirin in five cases (15.1%) and anti-vitamin K in four cases (12.1%). Anemia was microcytic hypochromic in 30 cases (52.6%), normocytic normochromic in 20 cases (35.1%), and macrocytic normochromic in one case (1.7%). The main aetiologic factors were hemodilution in 46 cases (80.7%), renal insufficiency in 30 cases (52.3%), inflammation in 29 cases (50.8%), and iron deficiency in one case (1.7%). The HIV serology, carried out in 11 cases, was negative. Anemia is a frequent comorbidity among heart failure patients. Aetiologic research remains difficult in our context, and its often multifactorial origin.

Ebstein disease is a rare congenital malformation whose clinical presentation differs according to the anatomical form and age of the patient. In adults, it presents mainly in the form of right or global heart failure or rhythm disorders. Survival is exceptionally long in some forms. We report the case of a 70-year-old patient with Ebstein’s disease in right heart failure.

Background: Heart dysfunction and sudden death are common complications in post-myocardial infarction. Purpose: This study aims to contribute to improving patient’s management by determining the factors correlated to the occurrence of left ventricular dysfunction or post-infarction sudden death. Method: It was a transversal, descriptive and analytical study conducted from January to October 2021. Results: The variables studied covered epidemiological, therapeutic and electrocardiographic aspects. There were 102 patients admitted for a recent revascularized myocardial infarction or not who had received a 24-hour ECG Holter after the acute phase of coronary event. The study population was predominantly men 88% versus 12% women with a sex ratio of 0.15. The discharge prescription was 74% antiarrhythmic, 91% platelet antiaggre-gator and 14% anticoagulant. Electrical abnormalities consisted of supraventricular extrasystoles in 45% of cases, ventricular extrasystoles in 61%, atrial fibrillation in 19% and supraventricular tachycardias in 11% (p < 0.05). Con-clusion: The prognostic factors associated with the onset of post-infarction complications were ventricular arrhythmias (p < 0.04), atrial fibrillation (p = 0.01), the side effects of antiarrhythmics (p < 0.04), variability and turbulence of heart rate (

Introduction: In our setting there is a lack of publications on female hypertension in general population motivating this study to look for electro- and echocardiographic findings of female hypertension. Methods: We performed a cross-sectional study during 6 months in the cardiology department of the UH-GT including 324 female patients aged 18 and more seen in the outpatient unit and by whom the diagnosis of hypertension was set. All patients consented to be study participants after receiving clearly information about the study and that care giving will not be affected by their eventual refusal. Data collection has been done with all needed confidentiality rules. A survey formular was used to collect data in order to record them in an Access database. Analysis was done using IBM SPSS software. Quantitative data are presented as mean with standard deviation and qualitative as proportion. Level of significance for statistic test was set at 5%. Results: During the study time 324 among 524 hypertensive patients visited our outpatient unit giving a prevalence of fHTN of 61.8%. The means for age, body mass index (BMI) in female hypertensive patients were respectively 52 ± 14.461 years and 27.35 ± 06.585 Kg/m2. Main ECG findings were left ventricular hypertrophy (LVH) and sinus tachycardia with respectively 93.6% and 46.4% followed by isolated ventricular extrasystole with 33.7%. Echocardiography findings included LVH, relative wall thickness (RWT) and reduced ejection fraction (EF) in respectively 41.05%, 37.35% and 21.91%. The left ventricular mass (LV) mass and geometry were abnormal in 44.4% and 37.3%. Remodeling as geometry modification (18.2%) and mitral flow Type 2 (90.4%) have been the most abnormal findings. Conclusion: Hypertension induced modifications mainly LVH in ECG and Echocardiography in female patients less than encountered among male hypertensive patients.
