A 2.5-year-old boy developed a right-sided eyelid swelling 3 days after onset of chickenpox. Orbital imaging confirmed an orbital cellulitis. The response to antibiotics was poor. The patient improved with intravenous steroids and an ischemic vasculitis secondary to chickenpox was postulated as the primary cause of the severe clinical picture. [J Pediatr Ophthalmol Strabismus 2013;50:e49–e51.]

A case of unilateral cicatrizing conjunctivitis in a 6-year-old boy after preseptal cellulitis on the same side is described. An excisional biopsy of the cyst was performed and conjunctival tissue was sent for immunological examination. The authors concluded that preseptal cellulitis was associated with cicatrizing conjunctivitis in the patient. [J Pediatr Ophthalmol Strabismus 2013;50:e47–e48.]

Surgically induced necrotizing scleritis is a rare immunologic reaction after strabismus surgery in the immediate postoperative period. The authors present a case of surgically induced necrotizing scleritis with Streptococcus pneumoniae growth 5 days after combined strabismus and cataract surgery that did not respond to antibiotics but did respond to systemic steroids. Prompt diagnosis prevents vision loss. [J Pediatr Ophthalmol Strabismus 2013;50:e44–e46.]
