A stark new report suggests that while some card schemes are trying to steer the UK towards a cashless society, British idiosyncrasies and love of traditions will ultimately prevent a “characterless, all-electronic future”.

In the face of growing migratory population trends, countries around the world find their social services and national security systems increasingly challenged. Wealthier countries attract economic migrants and foreign residents, while political instability or natural disasters create unexpected population displacement. In these circumstances, systems such as border control, national security, voter records, education, public health and social support infrastructures are all vulnerable. Stephen Price-Francis, vice president of marketing, LaserCard tells CTT it is therefore vital to establish identity verification systems that can be confidently and consistently relied upon. Not only does this protect the rights of citizens, but it also confirms the rights of foreign workers and other legal residents to participate in the benefits of the community in which they live.
