ORLANDO, Fla. — College and university logos and trademarks are valuable assets that institutions strive to protect from unauthorized use. But student-athletes often don’t think twice about wearing or displaying university logos in their posts and appearances as part of their name, image, and likeness deals.

A recent wrongful death lawsuit filed against Florida Atlantic University by the parents of a football player who passed away after experiencing a heat-related injury during practice highlights the potential issues that all schools could inevitably face in these circumstances.
