Information centres are supposed to provide users with their own bypass to the application backlog. This paper looks at how the concept of information centres has been taken up by users, and at how other mainframe manufacturers are reacting to what was a shrewd initial marketing ploy by IBM. Burroughs however has eschewed the information centre approach.
