An integral method has been developed for laminar free convection under non-uniform gravity. In addition to a characteristic velocity and the viscous boundary layer thickness, the method takes the ratio of the viscous boundary layer to the thermal boundary layer as another unknown so as to characterize the interactions between viscous and thermal diffusion processes.

Nonlinear fluctuation-dissipation relations (FDR), the validity of which was strictly proved for dynamic perturbations, are extended to include a wide class of physical quantities, such as temperature, entropy and chemical potential, that have a special statistical origin. The nonlinear Langevin equations have been constructed and the correlation functions for the fluctuation sources in these equations have been found.

Thermoelectric nonlinear fluctuation effects are considered by taking as an example the simple model of a conducting medium. The Nyquist formula has been generalized to include the temperature relaxation of the medium and the special density of the temperature fluctuations in the presence of the electric current flow in the medium has been determined.

Solidification fouling of paraffin wax from a solution in kerosene has been studied in a stirred system where a refrigerant was circulated through a surrounding jacket. The system is unique since it permits the study of the effects of varying shear stress on the deposit in one experiment and thus obviates the need of doing several experiments as in the case of flow through tubes. Effects of rotation speed and wall temperature have been studied. The results indicate that the shear stress has a profound influence on the deposit thickness. Based upon the experimental observations, the initial deposition is hypothesized to be diffusion controlled instead of particulate migration controlled.
