In this paper, two novel designs of nanoantenna for energy harvesting applications are introduced and numerically simulated using the 3D FDTD method. The proposed designs are mainly based on generating identical copies of original elliptical dipoles and then shifting the copies horizontally or vertically. The original elliptical dipoles and the shifted copies are merged together to obtain two novel shapes of nanoantennas with high harvesting efficacy. The proposed design offers total harvesting efficiency of 64.7 %; with an improvement of 85.9 % over the conventional rectangular dipole nanoantenna.

In this paper, a novel structure of a compact UWB slot antenna has been presented. For improved flexibility of the design, the slot is parameterized using splines. All antenna dimensions are simultaneously adjusted using numerical optimization procedures, which leads to a very compact footprint of 199 mm2 and acceptable matching within the entire UWB band.

In this paper, a technique for expedited design optimization of a compact photonic Y-junction has been proposed. We utilize sequential approximate optimization where local response surface approximation (RSA) models are constructed and optimized to yield a sequence of designs that converge towards the optimum. The junction geometry is parameterized using splines. In order to reduce the design cost, dimensionality of the design space is gradually increased by adding the number of control points for the spline curves in the subsequent algorithm iterations. The final design exhibits transmission of over 49.5 percent and return loss below 0.3 percent over the wavelength range from 1500 nm to 1580 nm.

A null broadening beamforming method of virtual antenna array is proposed, by which the real antenna array is transformed into virtual antenna array and the component of interference power in the covariance matrix is increased. Compared with the approach of covariance matrix taper, the null depth of the proposed method is improved. The validity of the proposed method is verified by theoretical analysis and simulation results.

This paper presents a comparison of the conventional filter bank multicarrier (FBMC) with the generalized frequency division multiplexing (GFDM) and cyclic FBMC (C-FBMC) that have recently been proposed as waveforms candidates for 5G. We identify situations where FBMC outperforms GFDM/C-FBMC, as well as the cases where GFDM/C-FBMC provide more flexibility than FBMC.

A novel high-selectivity triple-mode microstrip bandpass filter (BPF) using short- and open-stub loaded spiral resonator is presented. Because of the spiral structure, the size of designed BPF is reduced greatly. Then the odd- and even-mode method is used to analyze resonant frequencies of the resonator. Based on the analysis, a prototype of the proposed BPF with good selectivity is designed whose center frequency is at 4.3 GHz. Finally, the measured results are shown, which are in good agreement with simulations.

A capacitively CPW-fed multiband slot antenna is investigated in this paper. For 10-dB fractional bandwidth, the proposed antenna obtains 12.9%, 2.52%, and 5.33% at the center frequencies of 2.49 GHz, 3.57 GHz and 5.25 GHz, respectively. By using multiple protruded slots, one can achieve multiple operation bands with high design freedom. The three operation frequencies are for WLAN2400/5200 and WiMAX application. The antenna size is 70 mm (L) × 40 mm (W) × 0.8 mm (H). The proposed antenna achieves a near omnidirectional H-plane radiation patterns.

Fast multi-objective optimization of compact impedance transformer is discussed. A set of alternative designs representing possible trade-offs between conflicting design criteria, i.e., electrical performance (here, wideband matching) and the structure size, is obtained through Pareto front exploration by means of surrogate-assisted methods.

A new tri-mode banpass filter (BPF) using a half-wavelength spiral resonator center-loaded with two T-shaped open stubs has been presented. Analyzed by the odd- and even-mode method, an odd mode and two even modes of the proposed tri-mode resonator could be flexibly controlled by tuning the electrical length of the spiral resonators and T-shaped stubs. For demonstration purpose, a tri-mode filter example with passband centered at 1.8 GHz has been implemented.

Based on a 2D particle-in-cell finite difference in time domain code, the generation of EMP in the high-power, short-pulse laser interaction with the target is discussed. First, the interaction of laser pulses with plasma is simulated and the information of hot electrons is obtained. Then, the process that escaping electrons moving in the vacuum generates EMP is simulated. The simulation shows a peak electromagnetic filed 100kV/m and a very broad frequency.
