Background: The ABO and Rhesus (Rh) blood group system are the most important blood group systems in Transfusion Medicine, genetic studies and in legal medicine study. The distribution of the ABO and Rhesus blood groups is vital for the effective operation and planning of blood banks and secure blood transfusion services. Objective: To determine the distribution of ABO Rh blood groups among blood donors in Jiblah University Hospital in Ibb province, Yemen. Methods: A retrospective study was conducted at Blood bank of Jiblah university hospital in Ibb city, Yemen from January 2021 to August 2023. Blood groups typing of 4853 blood donors was carried out using Slide Agglutination (antigenantibody) method with antisera anti-A, anti-B, and anti-D. Age and sex of participants were considered. SPSS version 20 was used for data analysis. Results: The most common blood group was O (55.54%) and AB was the least common (1.71%). The prevalence of Rhpositive and Rh-negative was 80% and 20% respectively. There were statistically significant association between ABO blood groups and Rh blood group (P = 0.000). Conclusion: The overall phenotypic frequencies of ABO blood groups were O>A>B>AB and O+>A+>O->B+>A- >AB+>B->AB- was found to be the order of blood group frequency in the current study. There was a statistical association between ABO blood group system and Rh system
O+>A+>O->B+>A- >AB+>B->AB-。

Seven selected heavy metals namely Fe, Cu, Mn, Pb, Zn, Cd and Ni in five vegetable oils used in frying plantains (fresh and fried) collected from Ado-Ekiti, Ekiti State, were determined by graphite furnace atomic absorption spectrometry (GF-AAS) after microwave digestion. The accuracy of procedure was confirmed by certified reference materials (NIST). The relative standard deviations were found below 10%. In all the various oils (fresh and processed), the concentrations for Fe, Cu, Mn, Pb, Zn, Cd and Ni were observed in the range of 0.0005 -0.0018, 0.0002 – 0.0009, 0.0004 – 0.0021, 0.0001- 0.0007, 0.0003 – 0.0016, 0.0001 – 0.006 and 0.0002-0.0010 mg/kg, respectively. In general, among all the oils, fresh palm oil (FPO had the highest concentration) for all the selected heavy metals. Comparing with safety intake levels for these heavy metals recommended by Institute of Medicine of the National Academies (IOM), US Environmental Protection Agency (USEPA) and Joint FAO/WHO Expert Committee on Food Additives (JECFA), the dietary intakes of the seven heavy metals from daily consumption of edible vegetable oils for a 70 kg (adult) and 24 kg (children) body weight should pose no significant health risk to consumers. However, for adults and children, the THQ and HI were low. The TCR values also indicate low to moderate carcinogenic risks for adults and children.

Teclea nobilis is one of an endemic species to Ethiopia. It is used as a traditional medicine to treat analgesics and other disorders. Although many species of the genus Teclea have been investigated for their chemical constituents, there is no much prior report on the investigation of chemical constituents of root of Teclea nobilis. Phytochemical screening of the C6 H14, CH2 Cl2 ,CH2 Cl2 /CH3 OH (1:1) and CH3 OH root extracts of the plant revealed the presence of alkaloids, flavonoids, terpenes, phenols, tannins and glycosides.Chromatographic separation using column chromatography of CH2 Cl2 /CH3 OH (1:1) result in isolation of three compounds namely compound TN1(0.06%), TN2(0.04%)and TN3(0.05%).Structure are proposed for Compound TN1 and compound TN2 .Compound TN3 was not fully characterized due to lack of adequate spectral data.

The present study was carried out on the phytochemical investigation and antimicrobial activities of the leaf extract of H. abyssinica, O. lamifolium, R. chalepensis and S. incanum because, the plants was used for traditional medicinal in Ethiopia specially in North Gondar zone as treatment for many ailments. The powdered leaf of H. abyssinica, O. lamifolium, R. chalepensis and S. incanum was sequentially extracted with organic solvents: petroleum ether and methanol respectively. The petroleum ether and methanol crude extracts was subjected to phytochemical screening to test the presence of steroids, alkaloids, flavonoids, saponins, glycosides, phenols, tannins and terpenoids compounds that has might be responsible for the claimed activities by local people. The crude extracts was tested against four bacterial species (Gram negative bacteria: Escherichia coli and Salmonela thyphei; Gram positive bacteria: Staphylococcus aureusand Streptococcus agalactiae) using paper disc diffusion method. The results showed that the methanol was the best solvent for extracting antimicrobial substances from those plant when compared to petroleum ether. This indicates that plants rich in a wide variety of secondary metabolites such as tannins, alkaloids, tannin, flavonoids and terpenoids.
