Abstract This chapter describes the origin and introduction; climatic and site requirements, and other silvicultural characteristics; pests and diseases; natural regeneration; flowering, seed production and nursery conditions; provenance; timber and uses; yield and timber; and place of the following fir species in British forestry: Abies alba, A. grandis, and A. procera. The chapter also provides details on some species of silver fir that might be useful in a changing climate, including A. borisii-regis, A. cephalonica, A. cilicica, A. nordmanniana, and A. pinsapo. Finally, the chapter explores the likely silvicultural and utilization potential of Southern European Silver Firs in the UK.
