A New Addition Agent for the Electrolytic Refining of Tin and Lead 一种电解精炼锡、铅的新添加剂

Hexanol‐3 tails, phenol coefficient 16, was found to be an excellent addition agent for the electrolytic refining of tin from a stannous sulfate‐sulfuric acid electrolyte, 1.93 lb. (0.88 kg.) being required per ton of tin refined. In the electrolytic refining of lead from the fluosilicate bath, 0.8 lb. (0.36 kg.) is required per ton of metal refined. Hexanol‐3 tails is a complex mixture containing phenolic compounds that remains after the higher tar acids have been removed from certain coal tar distillation fractions. These impure mixtures of aromatic hydroxy compounds of the higher homologs of phenol are better addition agents than the corresponding pure compounds or mixtures of pure compounds. A method was developed for maintaining a desirable concentration of a slightly soluble addition agent in the bath by keeping a solution of the addition agent in a heavy insoluble liquid in the bottom of the bath.

Dry Cell Dynamics: The Bobbin 干电池动力学:筒子

This paper is a study of the relation between ampere‐hour capacity and drain. To determine this relation, a simplified model of the bobbin is set up. Kirchhoff's law is applied to this model to determine how the current through the manganese particles is distributed. (Do the particles near the carbon, or near the edge of the core, or somewhere between, bear the heaviest load?) It is demonstrated that on light and moderate loads the current is distributed almost uniformly, i.e., each manganese particle suffers about the same "drain." Attention is then focused on the individual particle. Evidence is introduced which indicates that some diffusion process within the particle itself plays a dominant role in determining the behavior of a dry cell on moderate and light loads. Fick's law of diffusion is applied to this hypothetical process. Constant current tests are used to determine the parameters in the resulting equations and to determine their ability to describe the behavior of dry cells on these tests.
