Discrete aurora are sporadic ultraviolet emissions on Mars. These emissions, which occur globally and in the upper atmosphere of Mars, are strongly correlated with martian crustal magnetic field. Crustal fields on Mars form from remanent magnetism locked in the crust, and vary in strength across the disk, with the strongest fields located in the southern hemisphere. Previous studies using data taken by the MAVEN spacecraft has revealed hundreds of detections in limb viewing and a single detection in the nadir observations. Further analysis of all nightside MUV nadir-viewing observations taken by the MAVEN Imaging Ultraviolet Spectrograph (IUVS) instrument has revealed approximately two hundred additional discrete aurora detections. While aurora occur globally and sporadically, events in the strongest crustal magnetic field regions of the martian southern hemisphere show high repeatability. Previous work reported using IUVS limb observations (Schneider et al., 2021) revealed detections occurring before midnight; the emissions identified in the nadir dataset show detections both occurring before midnight and after midnight in the strong field region. We find a previously unreported correlation and between local time and geographic location, with two distinct auroral event groups manifesting pre- and post-midnight in separate but adjacent locations in the strong field region. Magnetic field reconnection may explain this regional local time control of discrete aurora on Mars. The War on Drugs served as one of the most influential sociopolitical conflicts of the 20th century. While the war may have been initiated with the goal of decreasing drug use, it quickly spiraled into a conflict that fundamentally altered the fabric of the criminal justice, policing, and legal systems in the United States. Legislative action undertaken at both the state and federal level regularly implemented more stringent sentencing guidelines as prominent political figures called for drastic action to curb the epidemic of drug use in America. Routinely, action came in the form of harsher punishments and increased policing that perpetuated and worsened systemic inequalities towards African Americans. Although the punitive nature of the War on Drugs began to wane throughout the early 21st century, the negative economic, social, and political impacts instigated throughout the conflict continue to be felt by African American communities taken under its grasp.

Personal identity, body perceptions, and lifestyles have been researched and documented for decades. However, several athlete versus non-athlete lifestyles and characteristics have yet to be documented. Low life satisfaction is extremely common on college campuses today. With clinical depression (resulting from low life satisfaction) being the leading mental illness among college students. The current study uses a self-report questionnaire to examine how college students’ life satisfaction is impacted by athlete self-identification, body appreciation, and exercise frequency. From this research, implications, such as exercise interventions can be implemented to improve life satisfaction and mental health. The following research used bivariate correlations and a multiple regression analysis to examine these variables. Body appreciation was found to be significantly correlated with life satisfaction. Meanwhile, body appreciation and life satisfaction were individually associated with athlete self-identification. Further research is needed to confirm results of the study across different populations. The establishment of a permanent residency is a western concept that has gripped American idealism since colonization. Intertwining itself with the American dream, it is not only culturally crucial to own a house but socially crucial to own a house in a place, surrounded by people where it can become a home. Since moving to Colorado, the pressure of this concept has become more prevalent in my life. As a 22-year-old, I cannot say I fully understand what a home is to me yet. The lack of desire for permanency reflects as insatiability, causing guilt for the feeling of being dissatisfied. As a person that holds marginalized identities, feeling “at home” seems unreachable, and at times, unrealistic. Though, disheartening, I began to feel a greater magnetism towards concepts that liberate the emotions I have struggled with. I was drawn to nomadism and nomadic ideals; finding comfort that, I too, refuse to resign in an infertile place, seeking an environment that provides optimal possibilities and opportunities. Though American idealism is still placed on pedestals, I no longer find a need to appease these ethics as I connect more with my culture as a Mexican and Indigenous person.

Its raindrops, during monsoon season, would clash with the streets of roaring motorbikes. The roars, the urbanization, became deafening and paralyzed the breath of Việt Nam in sameness — in numbness. Vi could not feel herself from the waist down. The only warmth Vi felt was in the company of her parents. Vi would lie in-between them as they drove through the monsoon looking for a nearby hospital. This thesis studies the effects of the restrictions on the agriculture and non-agriculture household registration system often called urban and rural hukou, and its abolition on the disposable income disparity between urban and rural areas in China. This thesis uses the difference between the non-agriculture hukou and urbanization rates to measure the hukou limitation and its impact on income disparity in urban and rural areas. As for the integration reform, the study uses a dummy variable about before and after the integration reform and a dummy variable with additional regression specification of year to estimate the impact of such dichotomy on the income gap among Eastern, Western, and Central China. The results suggest that the stronger the hukou limitation, the more significant the income inequality between urban and rural areas, but the results are not valid in Eastern developed regions. The dual-track system has a more substantial impact on increasing the income gap in economically underdeveloped Western China. However, the thesis suggests that the integration reform cannot significantly diminish the income disparity between cities and the countryside.
