Pulmonary Rehabilitation for COVID-19 Patients COVID-19
Pub Date : 2022-06-01 DOI: 10.53476/acpr.2022.2.1.19

Coronavirus disease-19 (COVID-19) causes various physical and mental impairments as well as respiratory symptoms. Based on the positive effects of pulmonary rehabilitation (PR) for other respiratory diseases, many clinical researches on PR have been published in COVID-19 patients. It is sufficiently safe and effective to apply various PR techniques to these patients and well known for improving physical and pulmonary function. The effect of PR exceeds the natural recovery of the disease. Therefore, it is recommended to provide comprehensive exercise-based PR as much as possible. In response for the arrival of a similar pandemic in the future, it is thought that preparation for non- or minimal contact rehabilitation is required.

Pulmonary rehabilitation (PR) a safe and feasible option for patients with non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) before and after lobectomy or pneumonectomy. Pulmonary function test and oxygen consumption should be evaluated in these patients before and after the PR sessions. For those who are not eligible for surgery due to poor physical performance may have the chance to to receive surgical treatment by improving their exercise capacity after preoperative PR sessions. At the same time, preoperative PR reduces post-operative morbidity and mortality. Also, post-operative PR enhances functional regain after surgery, and reduces recovery time, post-operative complication, and hospital stays.

Abstract Despite the different pathological features of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) and asthma, the two diseases often present similar clinical characteristics. In both diseases, patients suffer from exertional dyspnea and other medical conditions. Pulmonary rehabilitation in COPD patients has been reported to have various effects, including reduced dyspnea, improved quality of life, and increased aerobic capacity. Although there are few clinical results on pulmonary rehabilitation in diseases other than COPD, recent studies have shown that rehabilitation in non-COPD patients helps improve exercise tolerance and quality of life as in COPD patients. It is important that pulmonary rehabilitation in two distinctive obstructive pulmonary diseases eventually has a common goal of having a personalized patient-tailored treatment strategy. This review summarizes the pulmonary rehabilitation as a non-pharmacological treatment for COPD and asthma.
Abstract Despite the different pathological features of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD)和asthmathe two diseases often present similar clinical characteristics。In both diseases, patients suffer from exertional dyspnea and other medical conditions。Pulmonary rehabilitation in COPD patients has been reported to have various effects, including reduced dyspnea, improved quality of life, and increased aerobic capacity。Although there are few clinical results on pulmonary rehabilitation in diseases other than COPDrecent studies have shown that rehabilitation in non-COPD patients helps improve exercise tolerance and quality of life as in COPD patients。It is important that pulmonary rehabilitation in two distinctive obstructive pulmonary diseases eventually has a common goal of having a personalized patient-tailored treatment strategyThis review summarizes the pulmonary rehabilitation as a non-pharmacological treatment for COPD and asthma。
