The transition from a linear to a Circular Economy is considered a revolutionary step toward a greener economy. Ensuring a successful transition requires radical changes in our current siloed approach to applying circular business models. Such models aim to mitigate negative environmental impact whilst fostering growth and prosperity. This research focuses on three models (‘Circular Supply’, ‘Resource Recovery’ and ‘Product-Life-Extension’). It aims to explore their collaborative aspects and influencing factors in the transition process towards circular ecosystems. By applying the theoretical lens of Social Capital Theory, with its characteristics of bonding, linking and bridging, findings revealed a snapshot of current circular practices in various industry sectors. In addition, the influencing factors for the specific Circular Business Models were identified based on the seven categories of: (1) Awareness/Social/Community; (2) Circular Workplace Environment; (3) Circular Material; (4) Customer and Market demand; and (5) Business and political standards, (6) Perception and individual standards/expertise, and (7) Communication skills. Finally, the findings were used to offer practical insights for organizations beginning their circular journey, with the categories being mapped alongside the CBMs.

The Clydebank Declaration proposed the concept of Green Shipping Corridor (GSC) at the 26th Congress of the Parties (COP 26) in 2021 to prioritise and accelerate the decarbonisation of the maritime industry. By sharing cost and risk burdens by the ten key stakeholders in the production of zero-emission ships and the use of green fuel oils, the GSC is conceived as an effective policy mechanism and logistics strategy to reduce GHG emissions at sea as well as to mitigate business risks inherent in the value chain. To ignite broader policy debate and discussion on the practical value of GSC, this paper reviews the current developments in GSCs, identifies key challenges in its implementation from a stakeholder’s perspective, and sets out global research agendas and future directions for decarbonising the maritime industry in the context of GSC.

ABSTRACT This paper aims to explore how blockchain facilitates supply chain finance (SCF) platform business model reconfiguration. We conduct a case study on a typical Chinese SCF platform to address research questions and propose a blockchain-enabled SCF platform business model framework. The results show that (1) the reconfiguration of the SCF platform business model is driven by internal factors (content, governance, transaction structure) and external factors (sector dynamics, geographical environment, technology) in the context of blockchain. (2) Blockchain influences the SCF platform business model reconfiguration through empowering the operation of SCF information, financial, material, and value flows. (3) The introduction of blockchain changes the business model of the SCF platform significantly, which is mainly reflected in the improved value proposition, expanded value network, strengthened value creation, and generated value appropriation. This study contributes to the existing literature on SCF, business model, and blockchain. The research also provides some important practical implications.
