This research explores the possibility of using biomass-based activated carbon as an adsorbent to adsorb carbon dioxide (CO2) in the exhaust gas, leaving a compression ignition (CI) engine. Three biomass residues, namely coconut shell, rice husk, and eucalyptus wood, were chosen to produce activated carbon. The adsorbent was packed in an in-house developed adsorption chamber attached to the exhaust of the test engine. The engine was run on diesel (D100) and an optimum diesel-biodiesel blend of 20% Jatropha methyl ester (JME) and 80% D100, JME20. CO2 emissions and adsorption parameters were evaluated and presented in this paper.
