Analysis of multi-band UWB distributed beaconing over fading channels 衰落信道下多波段超宽带分布式信标分析

In the past ten years, ultra wideband (UWB) technology has attracted great attention from academia and industry to enable a large number of applications. Typically, UWB was candidate to deliver home connectivity, sensor networks and body area networks. As UWB enabled devices operate in unlicensed mode, standardization efforts have been carried out in different parts of the globe to regulate their use in different contexts. ECMA-368 is an industry led standard for high data rate UWB communications. One of the key managing features of this standard is the so called distributed beaconing. In this paper, we analyze the distributed beaconing mechanism of ECMA-368. We focus on the transient phase in which newcomer devices attempt to join a network by accessing the standard defined beacon period. The joining procedure with which devices access the network is modeled by means of an embedded absorbing Markov chain. The relevant issue of modeling the miss-detection of beacon frames transmitted over fading channels is also assessed. Performance evaluation of distributed beaconing is given in terms of energy consumption. The required overhead for network setup is also analyzed.

UWB signal acquisition in transmit-only networks 纯传输网络中的UWB信号采集

This paper presents a novel method for signal acquisition in UWB-based transmit-only wireless sensor networks where concurrent transmissions are unavoidable and power control is infeasible. In such a scenario, the conventional CDMA approach where different sensor nodes have different spreading codes, suffers from the near-far effect and difficulty in code assignment. The proposed single-code method employing the low-duty-cycle DS-UWB signal turns the near-far problem to a near-far advantage and greatly simplifies the system complexity. The performance and implementation cost of our proposal are compared with other approaches, such as the CDMA approach employing the low-duty-cycle DS-UWB signal, the single-code approach employing the high-duty-cycle DS-UWB signal, the TH-UWB signal and the TH/DS-UWB signal. The results show that the proposed method has better performance and simpler implementation in the transmit-only scenario.

An UWB correlation receiver for performance assessment of synchronization algorithms 一种用于同步算法性能评估的超宽带相关接收机

This contribution deals with the topic of Ultra-Wideband correlation receivers and methods for their synchronization. In the first part of the paper the generic UWB transmitter and self-synchronizing correlation receiver are proposed and the measurements of the single building blocks are discussed. Further advanced synchronization scheme, allowing more efficient data transmission is proposed and finally the RF front end of the UWB transceiver is verified by the measurement in the real channel.

A miniaturized UWB bandpass filter using open stub T- shaped line loaded resonators 一种小型化的超宽频带通滤波器,采用开短段T形线负载谐振器

In this paper, a miniature planar ultra-wideband (UWB) bandpass filter has been proposed and simulated by using loop resonators. The occupied size of the proposed filter is 123 mm2 The studied filter is not only compact but also delivers excellent scattering parameters with magnitude of insertion loss, S21 lower than 0.09dB and return loss found better than 20 dB. The bandpass filter has 3-dB fractional bandwidth of 65% of center frequency (5.46 GHz), in the range of 3.7 GHz to 7.22GHz. A new feature of the loop resonator filter is constructed by ring resonator and T-shaped stub loaded at the line center.

Data-aided timing estimation in UWB communication systems using dirty templates 使用脏模板的UWB通信系统的数据辅助定时估计

Timing acquisition represents a major challenge in carrying out highly efficient ultra-wideband (UWB) communications. The timing with dirty template (TDT) approach is a promising candidate, which is low-complexity high-performance timing acquisition. In this paper, we describe the dirty template (DT) technique, in order to develop and test timing algorithms in Data Aided (DA) mode. In addition, we derive the Cramer-Rao low bound, which is used as fundamental performance limit for any timing estimator. Next, the TDT acquisition estimator is achieved by using Maximum Likelihood (ML) concept. Simulation results confirm that the timing estimation performance is improved with either the signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) or the training sequence number increases.

A novel super compact microwave ultra-wideband (UWB) bandpass passive filter (BPF) is proposed using S-shape broadside-coupled striplines. A theoretical model is presented to analyze the scattering and coupling mechanism of the suggested filter. To eliminate interference, a tunable integrated notched-band filter is also introduced using a new technique. A group delay of 0.08 ns within the passband is observed. Experiments carried out over the designed examples and the measurement and simulation results are compared. The physical volume of the filter is 1.5 mm × 1.8 mm × 1.5 mm.

Multiuser detection based receivers for diversity enhancing UWB systems 基于多用户检测的超宽带分集增强接收机

Ultra-wideband (UWB) transmissions have well-documented advantages for low-power, peer-to-peer, and multiple-access communications. In this paper, we present novel linear receiver algorithms for multiuser detection (MUD) based on minimum mean square error (MMSE) for diversity enhancing UWB multiuser communication systems. The algorithms exploit inherent multipath diversity and mitigate the effects of both inter symbol interference (ISI) and multiuser interference (MUI). Further more, the receiver algorithms also optimally exploit diversity. We also propose a coded transmission scheme for the MIMO-UWB system for exploiting transmit diversity. We provide performance evaluation of the detectors through detailed analysis and simulations for synchronous and asynchronous users. An analytical framework for obtaining closed form expression for the bit error rate (BER) of the above schemes is also discussed.

Performance comparison of the different IR-UWB receivers in wireless body area networks 无线体域网络中不同IR-UWB接收机的性能比较

This paper gives a performance overview of different types of ultra wideband (UWB) receivers that can be used in wireless body area network (WBAN) applications. The studied receivers are based on both coherent and non-coherent detections. The signal structure is following the IEEE 802.15.4a standard and the channel models used in the simulations are based on the experimental studies carried out at a real hospital environment. Two different links are used; on-body link and a link from body to external access point. Otherwise, the transceiver chain is kept the same all the time to distinguish the differences between studied cases, thus different channels.

Finite-resolution digital receiver for high rate ultra-wideband weighted-transmitted reference system 高速率超宽带加权传输参考系有限分辨率数字接收机

Having adequate robustness to variations of both weight coefficient and integration interval, the weighted-transmitted reference (WTR) system can achieve a superior performance and support high data rate ultra-wideband (UWB) communications as well. To benefit from these excellent advantages without using ultra-wideband analog delay lines, in this paper, a finite-resolution digital receiver is proposed. The performance of the proposed receiver is evaluated at a data rate of 114Mbps averaged over 100 realizations of IEEE 802.15.3a channel model 1 (CM1) for different quantization levels of finite-resolution analog-to-digital converters (ADCs) operating at Nyquist rate, taking into account noise, inter-path/pulse interference (IPaI/IPI), and inter-symbol interference (ISI). The effects of sampling rates, number of reference pulses, and the ADC threshold(s), weight coefficient, and summation interval on the receiver performance are also investigated. The evaluation results show that the proposed receivers using finite-resolution ADCs only suffer a performance degradation of several dB as compared to the full-resolution ADC and analog receivers. Therefore, employing finite-resolution ADCs could be a promising approach to implement the WTR receivers without using ultra-wideband analog delay lines.

Multi-level environment identification method for impulsive radio systems 脉冲无线电系统的多级环境识别方法

Current wireless communication systems strongly need to know if a line-of-sight (LOS) path is present between transmitter and receiver. The next generation of wireless systems will require more than the simple distinction between a LOS and a non-LOS (NLOS) link condition. The future short-range wireless communication and localization systems will require an exact environment identification in order to better set up all the services which the users require with a specific quality level. In this paper a new method for environment identification is proposed. This method is able to identify not only the LOS/NLOS condition but also the environment typology, i.e., if the propagation condition is typical of an office or a residential or an industrial area or outdoor, etc. If the environment in which the transmitter and the receiver are immersed is known, two main advantages can be reached: first, the localization of all the users is more accurate and, secondly, each receiver can be correctly configured in order to best adapt to the propagation conditions (cognitive approach) or to the network conditions (cooperative approach). Unlike the techniques discussed in the literature, the one proposed in this paper does not require any estimation, such as the estimation of the channel parameters. The method proposed here is based on statistical processing of the raw received probe UWB signal.
