Visible light communication using DC-biased optical filter bank multi-carrier modulation 可见光通信采用直流偏置光滤波器组多载波调制

Filter bank multicarrier (FBMC) has become a promising candidate to replace conventional orthogonal frequency-division multiplexing (OFDM) scheme in 5G technology due to its better spectral confinement which results in a reduced inter-channel interference (ICI). However, the viability of using FBMC in visible light communication has not been verified. In this work we present the first experimental validation of the DC-biased optical filter bank multicarrier (DCO-FBMC) modulation scheme over a free-space optical channel. Under different receiving powers, up to three times bit error rate performance improvement has been achieved using DCO-FBMC with different overlapping factors compared to that of conventional DCO-OFDM.

Ultra-wide coverage VLC system with alignment-free receiver 带有无对准接收器的超宽覆盖VLC系统

In this work we present an ultra-wide coverage visible light communication (VLC) system based on a mechanical beam steering system at the transmitter terminal and a fluorescent optical concentrator at the receiver. The transmitter and receiver full field of view (FFOV) are 100° and 120°, respectively. The coverage area of the transmitter system at 2m is 12.5m2 and a data link of 300Mbps has been achieved at this range.

Worst-case residual clipping noise power model for bit loading in LACO-OFDM LACO-OFDM中位加载的最坏情况剩余裁剪噪声功率模型

Layered ACO-OFDM enjoys better spectral efficiency than ACO-OFDM, but its performance is challenged by residual clipping noise (RCN). In this paper, the power of RCN of LACO-OFDM is analyzed and modeled. As RCN is data-dependent, the worst-case situation is considered. A worst-case indicator is defined for relating the power of RCN and the power of noise at the receiver, wherein a linear relation is shown to be a practical approximation. An LACO-OFDM bit-loading experiment is performed to examine the proposed RCN power model for data rates of 6 to 7 Gbps. The experiment's results show that accounting for RCN has two advantages. First, it leads to better bit loading and achieves up to 59% lower overall bit-error rate (BER) than when the RCN is ignored. Second, it balances the BER across layers, which is a desired property from a channel coding perspective.

OFDM-based wireless communications are widely used for digital data RF transmissions. This very efficient modulation scheme should prove to be one of the solutions for future VLC (visible light communications) systems. More-over, for outdoor applications, photovoltaic modules seem to be interesting alternatives to photodiode-based classical detectors. They are indeed known to offer a higher level of resilience to saturation effects. In this article, we present LiFi performance results obtained from an OFDM-based LiFi testbed using various photovoltaic modules as photodetectors.

Infrared and visible links for medical body sensor networks 用于医疗身体传感器网络的红外和可见链路

Our previous studies focused on channel simulation and performance evaluation of optical wireless links for medical body sensor networks. This allowed us to increase our expertise in this field and to propose here a full optical wireless bidirectional system named as LiFi communication system for medical monitoring applications. The full duplex bidirectional communication is based on an infrared uplink and visible downlink. The studied scenario considers a patient wearing both an infrared transmitter connected to a medical sensor and a visible light receiver. The infrared receivers and visible light emitters are included in light fixtures at the ceiling. The study relies on channel modelling considering patient body features, locations and movements. Using ray-tracing technique associated to Monte-Carlo method, we determine the overall performance in terms of outage probability. We apply our methodology considering various medical sensors and show that it is possible to satisfy the overall quality of service in terms of bit error rate and data rate.

Decoding methods in LED-to-smartphone bidirectional communication for the IoT 物联网led -智能手机双向通信中的解码方法

The use of visible light for bidirectional communication between regular smartphones and the small LEDs integrated in most consumer electronics nowadays raises new challenges. In this paper, we enhance the state of the art with an efficient image processing algorithm to accurately detect the LEDs and decode their signal in real time. To enable flash-to-LED communication on non-rooted smartphones, we propose encoding and decoding methods that cope with the inaccurate flashlight clock rate.

Measurement based correlation analysis of a hybrid optical wireless/60 GHz link 基于测量的混合光无线/ 60ghz链路相关分析

The potential of hybrid rate-adaptive links, combining LED based optical wireless communication and radio frequency technologies, is evaluated in this paper. We present results from an ongoing long-term outdoor field trial, indicating the beneficial combination of optical wireless communication and 60 GHz, concerning data rates and availability reaching up to 100 %. Real-time throughput results show that there is only low correlation of the technologies in severe weather conditions, making the parallel operation evident.

Suitability of visible light communication for platooning applications: An experimental study 可见光通信在队列应用中的适用性:一项实验研究

Vehicle-to-vehicle (V2V) communication is a core brick of the smart vehicle, especially in highway platooning configurations where it enables the lateral and longitudinal control of the vehicle trajectory. Although very attractive, the radio systems based on the IEEE 802.11p standard that are classically used for vehicular communication suffer from serious performance degradations in dense traffic scenario, especially in terms of transmission latency. Visible light communication (VLC) has thus been proposed as a complementary technology. In this work, a simple VLC system, based on commercial off-the-shelf (COTS) light-emitting diodes (LED) headlamps and taillights, is presented and tested in several configurations in order to evaluate its compatibility with platooning. It is shown that the system provides, at a data rate of 100 kbps, a bit error rate (BER) below 10−6 up to 30 m using either the front or back lamps. In addition, the transmission latency is evaluated at 4.2 ms and it is found that a jamming vehicle overtaking the platoon would not cause any performance degradation. These results thus confirm the interest of VLC for platooning.

On the optimality of multiple photodiode receivers using precoding schemes for visible light communications 多光电二极管接收机在可见光通信中使用预编码方案的最优性

The use of multiple light sources for visible light communications (VLC) naturally configures a multi-user multiple-input multiple-output (MU-MIMO) channel. Several transmit precoding (TPC) schemes based on Channel State Information (CSI) have been proposed for increasing the achievable rates in multi-user scenarios regarding the orthogonal resource allocation schemes. However, the particular characteristics of the light transmission leads to more likely correlated channel responses among the users. In this work, we propose the use of photodetectors equipped with multiple photodiodes able to provide distinct linearly independent channel responses by varying the architecture, i.e., orientation, filtering or shaping connected to a single signal processing chain. This approach allow to generate a photodiode selection scheme that obtains an uncorrelated set of channel responses improving considerably the performance of the TPC schemes in VLC systems. Moreover, since only one of the photodiodes of the photodetector is selected in each symbol time, the proposed approach involves a energy consumption reduction regarding traditional multi-photodiode architectures.

Efficient pulse amplitude modulation for SPAD-based receivers 基于spad的接收机的有效脉冲幅度调制

Single photon avalanche detectors are becoming available for applications that require photon counting or the accurate measurement of the arrival times of photons. Our previous experimental results have shown that in the future it will be possible to increase the sensitivity of receivers using this type of photodetector. In this paper a method of determining the optimum PAM symbol levels for this type of sensitive receiver is described and demonstrated.
