This study aimed to analyze the correlation between saccadic eye movement, activities of daily living, and cognitive function in elderly patients with stroke, that could help establish interventions in clinical settings. This study included 32 elderly patients with stroke who were admitted to a medical center. The King-Devick test (K-D test), Korean version of the Modified Barthel Index (K-MBI), and Korean version of the Montreal Cognitive Assessment (MoCA-K) were used as evaluation tools. The correlation between evaluation scores was analyzed using Pearson’s correlation coefficient. The correlations between the total scores of the K-D test, K-MBI, and MoCA-K were statistically significant (p<0.01). In addition, the K-D test showed statistically significant correlations with personal hygiene, bathing, feeding, toilet, stair climbing, dressing, chair/bed transfer, ambulation, and wheelchair use in the K-MBI and visuospatial/executive, naming, delayed recall, and orientation in the MoCA-K. This study showed a correlation between saccadic eye movement, activities of daily living, and cognitive function in elderly patients with stroke. In the future, such studies with larger sample would help to establish interventions in clinical settings.

In this study, based on the ICF framework, the effect of cognitive-based interventions on the support of the elderly with dementia was evaluated. Individualized cognitive-based interventions were provided to three elderlies with relapsed dementia, for a total of 20 sessions twice a week at a local senior center and at home. Individualized cognitive-based interventions include general cognitive stimulation activities conducted in groups or individually, cognitive training using workbooks or computerized tools to maintain and enhance specific cognitive functions, tasks of subjects' cognitive rehabilitation, and life story book- making activities to modify the environment and train daily life activities by analyzing the needs and priorities of the people. Task performance and satisfaction with goal activities related to daily life and basic daily life performance improved in all three patients. There were positive changes in instrumental daily living activities, cognitive function, subjective memory complaints, depression, severity of BPSD, and general health in two out of three patients. To support aging in elderly with dementia, interventions targeting environmental factors that affect participation in daily activities and improve cognitive function should be implemented.

A survey was conducted to examine the status of leisure activities among the elderly and to seek policy proposals to support leisure activities in terms of cognitive health. A survey on the status of leisure activities was conducted in 3,500 elderly people aged ≥65 years, living in Gyeonggi-do, in the form of one-on-on interviews from June 16 to July 17, 2021. The population was set based on the current output areas and number of households in Gyeonggi-do by the National Statistics Office, and the sample was extracted into 10 layers considering region, gender, and age. The most common leisure activity for the elderly aged ≥65 years was rest (73.4%), and the percentage of respondents who performed activities alone (38.7%) without companions was the highest. The most frequent participation in leisure activities was “several times a week,” and the average leisure expenditure per session was 11,122 won. During the leisure activity period, most (98.9%) of the respondents were more than one year old , and the proportion of use of religious facilities and other facilities, such as open spaces, was high. Regarding satisfaction with leisure activities, the response rate for “general satisfaction” (58.0%) was the highest. The most desired leisure activity was tourism (28.9%), followed by hobby entertainment (23.35%), and rest (17.6%). Only 0.7% of the respondents participated in volunteer activities, and the reason for not participating that had the highest percentage of response is “not interested” (45.2%). In Gyeonggi-do, 99.3% of the smartphone or cell phone users did not have Internet access, and the utilization rates of text reception (93.3%) and transmission (83.1%) were the highest . The economic expenditure burden (3.41 points) was the most common factor interrupting leisure activities, followed by climate condition (3.34 points) and lack of time (2.92 points). Active leisure activities relieve loneliness in old age, improve physical and cognitive health, and help maintain social relationships. Considering the geographical and physical limitations of the elderly, it is necessary to consider an alternative for managing cognitive health through the development of leisure content using electronic devices. In addition, the motivation of the elderly and the development of leisure careers are necessary, along with the role of the public domain in designing various community-centered programs.

The hand is the external brain. The hands are motor organs that carry out the commands given by the brain, and they are the sensory organs that provide the most information to the brain. When you move your hands or accept changes in the outside world with your hands, your brain is activated. Using your hands is an act that stimulates the highest levels of mental functioning. The purpose of this research and development is to contribute to the efficient and effective recovery of hand function through the continuous development of neurocognitive rehabilitation therapy training tools. Innovative improvements to the function of the hand function recovery training tool version I. The fixing part is equipped with silicone adhesive pads for easy movement and fixation. The height of the support is 75 mm, and the maximum height of the training tool is 200 mm. The height was considered so that the head could be relaxed and trained to restore hand function. The rotating part is very creative. 180° turns are possible on the forehead surface and 270° turns on the sagittal surface. In addition, the entire rotating part has been developed to be able to rotate 360° degrees. Innovative improvements in neurocognitive rehabilitation training tools for hand function training have enabled efficient and effective training. It is hoped that it will be actively used in clinical practice and contribute to the recovery of hand function in patients.

The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of combining vestibular-proprioceptive activities, bilateral coordination exercises, and visual perception training on sensory integration function and motor development in preschool-age children with developmental delay. This study is a case report of two male children with developmental delay, and was conducted over 16 sessions. In the initial evaluation and re-evaluation, the patients underwent a sensory profile, a motor fitness test (Bruininks-Oseretsky test of Motor Proficiency-2), and the Canadian Occupational Performance Measure. Both sensory integration function and motor development were evaluated. During the intervention period, vestibular-proprioceptive activities were alternately combined with bilateral coordination exercises or visual perception training and performed for 40 minutes each. The differences between the initial evaluation and re-evaluation results of each patient were analyzed. When sensory integration function and motor development results before and after the intervention were compared, the first patient demonstrated improvement in seven areas and the second in four areas in the sensory profile. In the exercise fitness test, both patients demonstrated improved scores in all areas. Thus, it was confirmed that vestibular-proprioceptive activities, when combined with bilateral coordination exercise and visual perception training, had a positive effect on sensory integration function and motor development for preschool-age children with developmental delay.

Physical self-efficacy refers to individuals' confidence in their ability to successfully perform a particular task and their positive feelings about their physical capabilities. The greater their physical self-efficacy, the greater their capability and performance on physical tasks. The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of clinical characteristics such as surgical history, medical history, current disease, medication, and fall experience on physical self-efficacy in community-dwelling elderly individuals. A total of 199 community-dwelling elderly individuals (111 of which were women) participated in this study. The participants received a self-report questionnaire. The scope of the questions included general characteristics, clinical characteristics (surgical history, medical diagnosis, present disease, medication, and falling experience within a 12- month period) and physical self-efficacy. All surveys were conducted using an online questionnaire prepared in advance and in accordance with the quarantine guidelines. Analysis of the corrected data revealed that the physical self-efficacy of those currently taking medications was significantly higher than that of those who did not. The physical self-efficacy of those who had experienced a fall within the previous 12 months was significantly higher than that of those who had no experience of falling. Based on the results of this study, health-promoting behaviors that enable elderly individuals living in the community to lead an independent daily life increases their physical self-efficacy and are a useful method for healthy aging.

This study developed a saccadic eye movement training program and attempted to verify its effectiveness as a tool for training saccadic eye movements in stroke patients. This study included 26 stroke patients. The subjects were classified into an experimental group and a control group through random allocation, and the King-Devick test was administered as the pre-test. After the pre-test, the experimental group performed an existing occupational therapy intervention and a saccadic eye movement training program intervention for a total of 16 sessions. The control group underwent existing occupational therapy and additional occupational therapy interventions. After four weeks, the experimental and control groups were re-tested. The time and number of errors in the King-Devick test before and after intervention in both groups showed statistically significant differences (p<.05), and both parameters in the King-Devick test decreased after the intervention. In addition, the time and number of errors in the King-Devick test in the experimental group after the intervention were significantly lower than those in the control group (p<.05). This study showed that the saccadic eye movement training program had a positive effect on saccadic eye movements in stroke patients.

The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of proprioceptive sensory-based therapeutic activities on sensory processing and problematic behavior in children with developmental delay. The participants of this study were two 5-year-old children diagnosed with developmental delay that was mediated through proprioceptive sensory-based therapeutic activities. The mediation done once a week for 50 minutes per session, for a total of 12 sessions. To examine the effects of proprioceptive sensory-based treatment activities, sensory processing was evaluated using the Sensory Profile and problematic behaviors were evaluated using the Korean Child Behavior Checklist before and after the intervention. Data analysis was performed by calculating the difference in values before and after the intervention, and visual analysis was done using graphs. After the proprioceptive sensory-based treatment activity, participant 1 was clear in the following items: sensory profile, sensory processing, visual processing, vestibular sensory processing, tactile processing, multisensory processing, oral sensory processing, endurance and muscle tone control, body posture movement control, and activity level control. The difference improved from that of the doubt difference, and the results showed improvement in atrophy, depression and anxiety, social immaturity, attention problems, aggression, internalization problems, and externalization problems in the child and adolescent behavior evaluation scale. Participant 2 showed an improvement in all items except the reaction threshold items in the sensory profile, and atrophy, depression/anxiety, social immaturity, thinking problems, attention problems, delinquency, aggression, internalization problems, and externalization in the child and adolescent behavior evaluation scale. Improved results were found on the problem scale. This study confirmed that proprioceptive sensory-based therapeutic activity had a positive effect on sensory processing and problematic behavior in children with developmental delay.
