Surface hardness of restoration materials affected its wear resistance and longevity. The addition of hydroxyapatite could improve mechanical properties of restoration material. Hydroxyapatite can be synthesized from fish scales for it contain calcium carbonate. The aim of this study was to evaluate the surface hardness of conventional and resin modified glass ionomers cement by incorporation of different wt% of hydroxyapatite from Black tilapia (Oreochromisniloticus) scales. Hydroxyapatite was synthesized from black tilapia scales by calcination method. Samples with a diameter of 5 mm and a height of 2 mm were made from conventional and resin modified glass ionomer cement, then divided into 7 groups (n=10), namely control, 2wt% GIC, 5wt% GIC, 8wt% GIC, 2wt% RMGIC, 5wt% RMGIC, and 8wt% RMGIC. Surface hardness test was measured with Vickers Hardness Tester. Result showed hardness value from each groups respectively were 49.81 ± 3.55 VHN, 34.49 ± 1.82 VHN, 32.58 ± 1.61 VHN, 36.63 ± 3.09 VHN, 32.05 ± 3.77 VHN, 36.23 ± 4.27 VHN, and 19.27 ± 1.71 VHN. One-way ANOVA test showed a significant differences in all group (p <0.05). It can be conclude that hydroxyapatite from fish scale had an effect on surface hardness of conventional and resin modified glass ionomer cement, whereas it decreased the hardness of conventional GIC, yet it increased the RMGIC hardness.

Dental braces installed in dental artisan and beauty salons are due to lack of awareness and knowledge of the community, especially school students about the indication of the use of dental braces and its consequences if used with improper purposes. One of the government's efforts to improve dental health rates for school students is the holding of the oral healthcare program (UKGS) in school. However, the oral healthcare program has not been evenly implemented and it is rare to conduct outreach about the use of dental braces. The purpose of this study was to increase knowledge about the correct use of braces in students of SMPN 34 and SMPN 36 Medan. This research was a descriptive study using 118 student samples from SMPN 34 and SMPN 36 Medan. The results of this study showed that was 92.6% of male students and 84.4% of female students knew that braces function was to straighten teeth, 79.6% male students and 78.1% female students knew the purpose of installing braces was for health, and 92.6% of male students and 84.4% of female students have known that braces installation must be performed by an orthodontist. The conclusion of this study was the level of knowledge about the use of braces in students of SMPN 34 and SMPN 36 Medan was quite high.

Root canal configuration influence the succeed of root canal treatment, because the morphological complexity of the root canal makes the procedure for preparation and obturation of the root canal more challenging. The anatomy and morphology of the root canal can be classified according to the Vertucci root canal classification system. In the Vertucci type V classification at the apical third of root the canal is divided into two separate root canals with two different apical foramen. This condition requires appropriate obturation techniques in order to obtain a hermetic seal. Case report: A 19 year old female patient wanted her upper left posterior tooth to be treated. Post dental history revealed there was spontaneous pain in the tooth, particularly happened at night. There was no pain detected during examination. The objective examination showed there was secondary caries in mesioincisal area of maxillary left first premolar tooth. Percussion, palpation and thermal vitality test was negative. The periapical radiograph revealed a radiolucent area at the apex of the tooth. The diagnosis established for this tooth was partial pulp necrosis with asymptomatic apical periodontitis. The configuration of the root canal was established as Vertucci type V. Root canal treatment using rotary crown down preparation technique and obturation with warm vertical condensation were performed, followed by class II composite resin restoration reinforced by short fiber reinforced composite. Conclusion: Root canal treatment with warm vertical condensation obturation technique is the appropriate treatment of choice for Vertucci type V root canal configuration.
