(Background the diversification of consumer demand, people have paid more attention to the rest space than the function of the duty-free sales space. The rest space is a place where people rest during shopping space activities. The convenience and comfort of the space and the layout design directly affect people's satisfaction with the overall image of the duty-free store. So far, most documents for duty-free stores focus on the sales space of the duty-free store and the external floor space of the building. Therefore, the purpose of this study is to analyze the spatial characteristics of the interior resting space of duty free shops, and to provide the basic data on the new duty free rest spaces by grasping the layout and spatial characteristics of the duty free shop resting space.(Method)The scope of this study was to analyze the spatial characteristics of six duty-free shops in Seoul. As for the research method, space characteristics for case analysis were deducted through the contemplation of precedent studies on the concept of space composition of rest spaces in duty free shops. Convenience, accessibility, awareness and comfort, which were deducted as analysis elements of rest spaces, were analyzed for each case and final conclusion was deducted through comparative analysis.(Results)The spatial characteristics of the surveyed subjects were located next to the elevators of all surveyed subjects except two cases were in order of accessibility, cognition, comfort and convenience. In all cases, professional rest spaces were installed, followed by convenience, comfort, cognition and accessibility. In other words, rest spaces are often planned to be easily accessible to shopping spaces according to the elevator location, and specialized rest spaces increase convenience by providing diversity and selectivity through various amenities and furniture arrangements, and partitioning of spaces. (Conclusions)As a result of analyzing 6 cases, cognition and comfort were the highest among rest space characteristics, followed by convenience and lowest accessibility. In most cases, the resting space is clearly distinguished from other spaces through the use of various lighting and furniture arrangements, colors, and finishes. The resting space is well controlled by temperature control, ventilation, and ventilation through the control device. In the rest space, access to the shopping area is important, and at the same time, the privacy of the resting space should be planned for the users. In addition, it is desirable to install a guide map or a sign that makes it easy to recognize the resting space, and it is necessary for people to use without inconvenience due to the number and variety of furniture, and to consider the convenience of various customers.
