EPR steering is an asymmetric quantum correlation, as such, it is an important resource for quantum information protocols, like those used in quantum key distribution that are of tremendous relevance nowadays. The security of the aforementioned protocols can be shown by using entropic uncertainty measures, which are based on quantum information quantities, among which the entropies are found. In this work, we propose an entropic measure of steering, starting from the detection of steering given in a previous entropic uncertainty relation-based criterion, as well as using a generalised entropy, the Tsallis entropies. We define the entropic measure of steering in terms of an indicator, a quantity depending on the entropies of the measurements of the system, which assigns a value to the steering content of quantum states, while also comprising the asymmetry property of steering. We investigate the properties of the proposed quantity as a measure of steering and its asymmetry and show how it can be used for specific examples. For instance, a class of noisy two-qubit states that includes the Werner states is used to demonstrate the potential of such a proposal. Furthermore, a comparison is also made with the detection of steering in these states using existing steering criteria and the amount of steering a geometric measure for the Werner state gives.

Time division interferometer setups 时分干涉仪装置

A time division interferometer (TDI) in the optical regime is presented, where a wavetrain is temporally split into two distinct parts that are superimposed at a subsequent stage. At any one time, the photons have no alternatives, only one possible path is possible. There is no path bifurcation in the setup, i.e. no ‘Y’ where the photons can take left or right. The photons choice, if any, is to arrive/collapse before or after the time t1 when the time modulated medium changes its state. In time-varying media, as energy can be exchanged between the wave and medium, the wave frequency is modified. Thus, the diverted photons become doubly tagged, in their wave vector direction as well as their frequency. A streak camera detector array resolves both, the fringe pattern as well as the frequency beats, in a space versus time interferogram. This apparatus has temporal resolution and spatial resolution. Several TDI configurations are described, two of them are implemented: a spatio-temporal interferometer where the ‘which path’ criterion is readily observed and an all temporal TDI where only temporal interference is present. Novel possibilities of TDI schemes are discussed.

An approach to generate cross-polarization modulation-enabled optical frequency comb with enhanced spectral flatness in traveling-wave semiconductor optical amplifiers 在行波半导体光放大器中生成具有增强光谱平坦性的交叉偏振调制光频率梳的方法

This paper proposes a method for generating an optical frequency comb (OFC) using the cross-polarization modulation (XPolM) effect in a traveling-wave semiconductor optical amplifier (TW-SOA). The TW-SOA acted as a lumped amplifier, enabling pulse generation within the comb. The proposed method of OFC generation achieved a comb spectrum with 51 lines and a maximum power deviation of 1.8 dB, indicating excellent spectral flatness. The proposed approach effectively utilized XPolM in a TW-SOA to create broad flat OFCs. The effectiveness of XPolM depends on various SOA parameters, such as pump and signal powers, and the confinement factor. To understand the XPolM-enabled OFC behavior, various parameters, such as input polarization, bias current, SOA confinement factor, and carrier density, have been optimized. These parameters significantly influenced the generated comb spectrum. This study also provides valuable insights into optimizing comb characteristics through theoretical analysis. The proposed OFC generation was simulated using an OptiSystem simulator. This has paved the way for the potential use of the comb as a multichannel source in various optical devices.

Breaking efficiency-bandwidth limits of integrated silicon modulator using rib waveguide slab region doping design 利用肋状波导片区掺杂设计打破集成硅调制器的效率-带宽限制

Doping optimization in the slab waveguide region of a silicon photonic (SiP) modulator has always been considered to balance the optical loss and electrical resistance–capacitance constant. We found that the AC PN junction capacitance could be significantly decreased by specific doping concentrations in the slab areas. Benefiting from this effect, microwave losses are reduced and the electro-optic (EO) bandwidth is increased. As a proof-of-concept, we propose a silicon modulator based on a conventional lateral PN junction with optimized doping in the waveguide slab region. The simulation results show that a 3 dB-EO bandwidth exceeds 100 GHz can be achieved with a modulation length of 2 mm. In addition, the modulation efficiencies are 1.26 V·cm and 1.45 V·cm under −4 V bias and −6 V bias, respectively. This design shows the potential of high-speed signal transmission in SiPs.

Through a detailed examination of design principles, operational mechanisms, and performance metrics, it is shown that the LT-MZI configuration offers superior sensitivity and improved interference pattern control, making it particularly suitable for high-precision sensing applications. This perspective provides valuable insights into the selection and optimization of MZI configurations for specific photonic sensing needs.

Compact passive system for speckle-free uniform illumination in RGB laser projectors based on incoherent focusing 基于非相干聚焦的 RGB 激光投影仪无斑点均匀照明紧凑型无源系统

A theoretical analysis of the hardware mechanisms for subjective speckle suppression in RGB laser projectors has revealed that achieving a compact speckle-free passive laser illumination system with uniform illumination requires simultaneous reduction of temporal, spatial, and polarization coherence of the illumination laser beam, along with light intensity homogenization. To address this, we propose a compact passive optical scheme based on incoherent focusing of the laser beam using arrays of prisms with varying heights. The system also incorporates depolarization of a portion of the laser beam and an optical diffractive optical element employing a pseudo-random binary sequence to enhance speckle reduction and improve uniform illumination quality. We demonstrate that such a system can be assembled using readily available laser light sources and optical elements, and its operational principle is experimentally validated.

Real-time full Stokes quantitative imaging with a pixelated polarization camera 利用像素化偏振相机进行实时全斯托克斯定量成像

We propose and experimentally demonstrate a quantitative full Stokes parameter extraction system to address the intrinsic constraints of conventional polarization imaging systems regarding real-time-imaging and characterization of polarization features. The simultaneous extraction of all four Stokes parameters is employed by designing a compact optical scheme with two equal intensity parallelly propagating polarized beams generated prior to the detection with a polarization camera. Moreover, the approach utilizes the polarization multiplexing feature of the pixelated camera for the design of the real-time full Stokes parameter extraction system. The stability and reliability of the system are verified through rigorous testing on standard half-wave plates and quarter wave plates. Additionally, the quantitative imaging capability of the technique is tested with a standard birefringent resolution target. Orbital angular momentum (OAM) is a crucial property of electromagnetic waves used in various applications such as free space communication, light detection and ranging, and remote sensing. However, turbulence can disrupt OAM-based systems by causing energy transfer between OAM modes, significantly impacting emerging fields in the optical spectrum. While traditional analyses assumed a constant turbulence parameter (Cn2), recent research highlights its stochastic nature in specific scenarios. Our study introduces a new model that considers the stochastic nature of Cn2. By incorporating this characteristic, our approach provides better predictions of system performance and valuable insights for accurately characterizing and designing communication and remote sensing systems in weak turbulent environments, enhancing their reliability and efficiency.

The work is devoted to the study of plasmon–phonon gain in CdHgTe/HgTe structures with quantum wells (QWs) located near the boundary of the structure with vacuum/air (near-surface QWs). The issue of the influence of the distance between QWs on the plasmon–phonon gain has been studied. It has been shown that a decrease in the distance from the nearest QW to the structure boundary leads to an increase in the phase velocity of the generated plasmon–phonon and a decrease in the power absorbed by phonons in the barriers. This leads to a decrease in the threshold concentration of nonequilibrium carriers required to begin of plasmon–phonon gain under conditions of optical excitation.

Microstructured flexible polymer films with embedded phosphor for multifunctional passive radiative cooling 用于多功能被动辐射冷却的嵌入荧光粉的微结构柔性聚合物薄膜

Passive daytime radiative cooling schemes are of much interest because of their attractive potential to reduce energy consumption. However, the structural conditions for designing and fabricating efficient radiative cooler limit their optical diversity and hinder their practical utilization (e.g. light-emitting cooling panels, smart window systems, smart signboards, or anticounterfeiting). Here, multifunctional passive radiative cooling films are demonstrated by simultaneously implementing speckle image holography disordered microstructures and phosphor particles into the radiative polymer layer. The as-obtained multifunctional film exhibits high total reflectivity in the sunlight region (∼89%) and strong infrared emissivity (∼91%) within the atmospheric window band (8–13 μm), thus achieving subambient cooling of ∼4.1 °C under direct sunlight in a nonvacuum setup. Interestingly, the multifunctional structural films can be acted as light-emitting films under violet or blue illumination and also can be easily patterned by drawing, cutting or pixelating. The multifunctional structured films demonstrated here can be utilized for potential UV resistance, smart window displays, anticounterfeiting cooling systems, roofing materials and certain aesthetic purposes.
