Effects of zinc oxide nanoparticles on renal function in mice 氧化锌纳米颗粒对小鼠肾功能的影响

Background: Considering the medical applications of zinc oxide nanoparticles, evaluating their adverse effects on the organisms is important. Materials and Methods: In this study, the effect of a single injection (ip) of zinc oxide nanoparticles (50, 100, 200, 300mg/kg) on changes in the renal parameters (uric acid, creatinin, urea) was studied after 8 and 30 days of the treatment. Results: Results showed that the urea and creatinine levels in the 300 mg/kg group were significantly increased 8 days after the injection (P Conclusion: It seems that a single injection of zinc oxide nanoparticles, especially at high doses (300 mg/kg), has a short-term effect (8 days) on the renal function, but after a month, possibly with the gradual elimination of nanoparticles uptake into the kidney, these effects disappear. However, further studies with more injections are essential.

Non-alcoholic fatty liver disease 非酒精性脂肪肝

Background: Non-alcoholic fatty liver disease is among the prevalent causes of chronic hepatitis and cirrhosis. Here, we discuss the best diagnostic and therapeutic approaches for the disease. Materials and Methods: Epidemiology, pathogenesis, etiologies, natural course, differential diagnosis, treatment options, complications and follow up of the disease are reviewed in this paper. Results: Non-alcoholic fatty liver disease seems to be the hepatic manifestation of the metabolic syndrome. Liver function tests and sonography can be used as the appropriate screening tests for diagnosis. Weight loss and control of hyperlipidemia and diabetes mellitus might be the best therapeutic approaches. Conclusion: Early diagnosis and appropriate treatment may decrease mortality and morbidity rate associated to the cardiovascular complications of the metabolic syndrome.

Effect of Metronidazole on Spermatogenesis, Plasma Gonadotrophins and Testosterone in Male Rats 甲硝唑对雄性大鼠精子发生、血浆促性腺激素和睾酮的影响

Metronidazole and it’s derivatives are drugs that have both antiprotozoal and anti bacterial effect.The reproductive toxicity of metronidazole has been shown in some studies. To investigate the effect of metronidazole on spermatogenesis in adult male rats, this study was designed. Eighteen wistar male rats (70-90days old) were randomly divided into three groups. Animals in group I (Control group) were administered the water. Animals in groups II, III were administered metronidazole at doses of 200 and 400 mg/kg/day for 60 days. Different varieties of germ cells at stage VII seminiferous epithelium cycle, namely, type A spermatogonia (ASg), preleptotene spermatocytes (pLSc) and step 7 spermatids (7Sd) were quantitatively evaluated, along with radioimmunoassay of plasma follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH), luteiniging hormone (LH), testosterone assessment. In the 200 and 400 mg/kg groups, there were significant decreases in the testes and accessory sex organ weights, plasma concentrations of LH, FSH and testosterone with massive degeneration of all the germ cells at stage VII. It is concluded that metronidazole has a suppressive influence on spermatogenesis and sex hormones in rats.
