The digitization of collections increased the opportunities to share the knowledge preserved in our libraries, archives and museums. But this is not always accompanied by the development of new tools for organizing and systematizing both the metadata and the associated images. It will be necessary to ensure the long-term implementation and sustainability of digital preservation strategies for these collections. At the Documentation and Information Centre (CDI) of the Seixal Municipal Ecomuseum (EMS), a collection of digital resources has been managed without a formally defined incorporation and management policy. Since systematic criteria were not created regarding its creation, storage, preservation, cataloguing or use, the collection has grown according to the needs imposed by the development of museum activities. Based on a diagnosis made on the collection, its characteristics and weaknesses are identified in the light of existing good practices for the development of these collections. Finally, measures that can improve the management of these digital objects in the light of the EMS Documentation and Information System (SDI) are also discussed. Two sets of measures that can contribute to the development of a plan for the management of the existing collection are identified. One, includes some practical proposals that could be implemented at the level of the CDI’s internal organisation. The other, includes measures that can only be implemented in the long term and considered within the scope of a global strategy by the EMS authority in this regard.

Contributo para a preservação digital do Arquivo Digital da Universidade do Porto 为波尔图大学数字档案的数字保存做出贡献

With this contribution, it is intended to present, in a succinct way, the work that was developed in the context of the work-based learning component, in an internship format, integrated in the specialization course of the Mu.SA project, within the scope of the profile of Digital Collections Curator. The internship happened in the Documentation and Information Management unit of UPDIGITAL, one of the functional centers of the University of Porto Rectory. The main goal was to contribute to the digital preservation of objects that constitute documental series of the Digital Archive of UPORTO, ending with the insertion of these objects in a specific platform, Libsafe. After the presentation of the object, the objectives and methodology, there is a succinct contextualization of themes that are relevant to the work, such as digital preservation, supports, practices, tools, and formats normally used in this practice. The documental series, the tasks performed, and the results obtained are presented, sharing reflections, and making considerations.

In the context of the Specialization Pilot Course promoted by the Mu.SA Project – Museum Sector Alliance, the integration in a cultural institution in the form of an internship (or work-based learning) was an important opportunity to put into practice the knowledge obtained in the different modules of the course, allowing the development of various competences within the functional profile of the Digital Interactive Experience Developer. The institution in question was the Science Museum of the University of Coimbra. This contribution presents a brief reflection on this period of integration, summarizing the main objectives, tasks carried out and, in the end, the proposal of some interactive practices that the museum can apply in its exhibition space.

The Coa Museum, open in 2010, is the entryway to the Coa Valley Archaeological Park. The visit to the rock art sites at the Coa is an authentic, irreplaceable experience that does not need ‘artifices’ to be enjoyed beyond a captivating guide delivering scientifically approved knowledge to visitors on the art and its natural and cultural context. Thus, the Museum’s exhibition programme was originally thought of as a complement to the visit to the Park that could summarize the scientific information collected in the last decades in the Coa Valley as well as presenting the most relevant rock imagery of a territory that extends for about 200 km2 . A decade after inauguration, taking advantage of the augmented and virtual reality devices that have now been made available, time had come to update the exhibit, making the visit even more captivating. Therefore, this chapter intends to present, discuss, and muse on the digital renovation recently implemented at the Coa Museum.

Visita virtual interativa do Museu do Centro Hospitalar do Porto : contributo para a produção de conteúdo digital 波尔图医院中心博物馆的交互式虚拟之旅:对数字内容制作的贡献

In the context of the Specialization Course, pilot version, promoted by the Mu.SA Project – Museum Sector Alliance, more specifically within the scope of the functional profile of Digital Collections Curator, an internship, or work-based learning, was developed at the Museum of the Hospital Center of Porto, with focus on the permanent exhibition Nineteenth-century Botica Hospital Santo António and Workshop Pharmacy of the Joaquim Urbano Hospital. It was an excellent opportunity to put into practice the knowledge acquired, in parallel, in online and in-person theoretical training. The main objective was to produce a rigorous and captivating narrative for each of the fifteen objects chosen as a sample, in order to integrate the 360° advanced interactive virtual tour that the museum intended to produce. For this purpose, we resorted, on the one hand, to a literature review, with the help of pharmacopoeias and old forms, to deepen the knowledge about the objects in question and on the topic, and, on the other hand, to fieldwork, through the collaboration network formed throughout the course, which proved to be a great asset.

Evolving from an introductory Massive Open Online Course (MOOC), the Specialization Pilot Course “Digital Skills for Museum Professionals of the 21st Century”, within the scope of the Mu.SA - Museum Sector Alliance Project (2016-2020) integrated a practical component of an internship, or work-based learning. In the case of this contribution, this materialized at the Museu Nacional da Música, in Lisbon, developing competences within the scope of the functional profile of the Digital Collections Curator. During the internship, a detailed diagnosis of the contents of the inventory sheets of the museum’s instrumental collection was carried out, to contribute to the qualification and promotion of the accessibility of the information available, in public access, through the Matriznet platform, which is presented. This contribution also addresses a series of questions about the need for technological evolution within museological institutions and the role that specialized training plays in the development of competences in museum professionals.
