Starting from the structure of graphene, the electrical and optical properties of graphene is analyzed in this paper. Then, the transmission characteristics and the modulation for the optical pulses are discussed with the graphene waveguide model. Finally, the graphene based on the mode-locked fiber laser system is simulated, thereafter the role played by graphene will be found.

Design and fabrication of bilayer metallic nanowire polarizers and color filters based on surface plasmon and waveguide mode resonances 基于表面等离子体和波导模式共振的双层金属纳米线偏振器和滤色器的设计与制造

Optical responses in Bi-layer metallic nanowire grating are investigated. There are two kinds of Surface Plasmon resonances: lateral propagating Surface Plasmon waveguide modes excited by the diffraction of the grating which lead to dips in transmission; Surface Plasmon resonance between the slits of the grating, which leads to high extinction ration of TM to TE transmission. With simultaneous resonances, a compacted device of integrated color filter and polarizer can be achieved. In order to improve the transmission of TM light, an undercut structure is proposed. The mechanism of the enhancement is analyzed. Bi-layer metallic nanowire gratings are fabricated by laser interference lithography and subsequent E-beam deposition. The measured transmission and reflection spectra confirmed the theoretical and numerical simulations. The results will have wide potential applications in Displays, Optical communication, and integrated Optics.

Influence of the splicing on the birefrengence characteristics of the highly birefringent photonic crystal fiber 拼接对高双折射光子晶体光纤双折射特性的影响

Influence of splicing the highly birefringent photonic crystal fiber (HB-PCF) with single mode fiber (SMF) under two different experimental conditions is studied in details. The result shows the birefringence of the HB-PCF can be either increased or decreased significantly, depending on the connection conditions of the HB-PCF end, which are classified as case I (the end is closely butted by another fiber) and case II (the end is in open air). From the experiment and theoretical analysis, it has shown that in case I the retardation change of the spliced section of HB-PCF with 0.2mm in length can be 3.2 times larger than the original value. However, in case II the retardation may be reduced to 72.12% of the original one. The obtained result is important for the design and fabrication of optical fiber devices and sensors based on HB-PCFs.

Fiber optic intrinsic Fabry-Perot temperature sensor fabricated by femtosecond lasers 飞秒激光光纤本征法布里-珀罗温度传感器

A fiber-optic intrinsic Fabry-Perot (F-P) interferometric sensor was inscribed in a standard single mode fiber by inducing refractive index change in the core. It was written directly by using a femtosecond laser. The reflection spectrum of the fiber-optic F-P interferometric sensor was measured and was investigated as a temperature sensor. The sensitivity of the sensor is 9.2 pm/°C in the temperature range of -20~80°C.

Simultaneous measurement of displacement and temperature with a single singlemode-multimode-singlemode (SMS) fiber structure 用单模-多模-单模(SMS)光纤结构同时测量位移和温度

We report an experimental study of a SMS fiber sensor for simultaneously measuring both displacement and temperature. By measuring both central wavelength spectral shifts and peak power variations, displacement and temperature can be independently determined with a demonstrated sensitivity to displacement of 0.62 μm and a temperature sensitivity of 1 °C by using a typical OSA which has a wavelength resolution of 10 pm and power measurement resolution of 0.01 dB.

Experimental demonstration of DREAMSCAPE with more than 1000 GMPLS-based control nodes 基于gmpls的1000多个控制节点的DREAMSCAPE实验演示

With the development of large scale multi-layer and multi-domain optical networks, path computation becomes more complicated as complex policies and constraints are to be considered and dynamic routing becomes one of the key issues in GMPLS/ASON networks. A novel Dual Routing Engine Architecture in Multi-layer and multi-domain Scalable and Constraint-Aware Policy-Enabled optical networks (DREAMSCAPE), exploiting the advantages of both GMPLS control plane and Path Computation Element (PCE), is introduced to improve the performance of routing in multi-layer and multi-domain optical networks in this paper. In the architecture, the cooperation of Group Engine (GE) and Unit Engine (UE) makes it effective to optimize path computation especially under complex multi-constraints. The functional architectures of dual routing engines are described in the paper. Based on this novel architecture, a testbed with more than 1000 GMPLS-based control nodes has been built in our lab using virtual machine technology, and two path computation approaches have been implemented on the testbed. The latest results are experimentally demonstrated on the testbed, and some future research issues are presented in the conclusion.

we propose the improved dual-wavelengthpumped scheme based on the former work (C.Xiong et al, Journal of lightwave tech. 27, 1638-1643(2009)), which can obviously increase the power at the visible wavelengths and effectively improve the flatness of spectra by solving the Generalized Nonlinear Schrödinger Equation with the adaptive split-step Fourier method and simulating supercontinuum generation.

DSP-based high precision real-time inline PMD monitoring 基于dsp的高精度实时在线PMD监测

Polarization mode dispersion is considered to be one of the main obstacles for high speed long-haul optical fiber communication systems. It is necessary to realize PMD monitoring. This paper theoretically analyzed the principle of polarization mode dispersion monitoring with degree of polarization as monitoring signal. Using the degree of polarization method, the scheme of DSP based high precision real-time inline PMD monitoring is designed and implemented. An experiment system is set up to monitor polarization mode dispersion of 40Gbit/s DQPSK system. The experiment results show that the range of input optical power is -20~0dBm, the response time is 1μs and the states of polarization accuracy degree is 1%. It has high sensitivity and can be used in a variety of modulation formats and it is independent of optical signal rate.

Using the degree of polarization method, the scheme of DSP based high precision real-time inline PMD monitoring is designed and implemented. An experiment system is set up to monitor polarization mode dispersion of 40Gbit/s DQPSK system. The experiment results show that the range of input optical power is -20~0dBm, the response time is 1μs and the states of polarization accuracy degree is 1%. Dependence of reliability of GaN LEDs on their junction temperatures and ideal factors GaN led的可靠性与结温及理想因数的关系

The relationship between the reliability of GaN LEDs and their junction temperatures and ideal factors is investigated. 20 groups of both blue and white GaN LEDs are tested. Their ideal factors and junction temperatures under 700mA operating current are measured. The measurement methods are introduced. After the measurement, 700mA high current accelerated life test is carried out on the LEDs. Analysis results show that the reliability of the LEDs is strongly dependent on their junction temperatures and ideal factors. For most of the unreliable LEDs with their 50% ALT life less than 400 hours, their ideal factors are higher than 10, or the junction temperatures of the blue LEDs under 700mA are higher than 130°C, and the junction temperatures of the white LEDs under 700mA are higher than 120°C.
