Sveta Rožalija u kazalištu ili evo slike svita tko ga vidit hoće

Sveta Rožalija was first performed in 1999 at the Požega City Theatre, on the occasion of marking the 300 th birth anniversary of the author. Talented young professionals (director: Jasmin Novljaković; adaptation and dramatization: Anita Jelić; choice of music and chore -ography: Jasminka Petek Krapljan; stage design: Miljenko Sekulić; accentuation: Snježana Mostarkić), cooperating with fifteen actors from Požega, members of the secondary-school theatrical troupe, and actors of the older generation, created an exceptionally successful performance combining Baroque text, language and accent of the 18 th century with mod ern visual approach. Starting with the question what the message of the topics tackled by the long poem today is, they demonstrated how interesting this Baroque long poem actually is for a modern spectator, since it speaks about the thing that is missing from the modern stage – the sense of living, while portraying the potentially right and wrong an swers to the problems of life through characters. Unfortunately, this was the only theatrical performance of this work (apart from a radio drama). However, in 2017, students of the Antun Kanižlić Primary School presented Kanižlić as a character in the play Vrijeme Antuna Kanižlića (The Time of Antun Kanižlić) .

Antun Kanižlić i Vincenzo Basile: Kanižlićeva djela u Dalmaciji u 19. stoljeću

Spasitelja našega... ( Zagreb 1760), with a new title and in line with the new orthography: Važni uzroci s kojih Gospodina Isukrsta Spasitelja našega nada sve ljubiti moramo i njeka spasonosna sredstva kojim se ova ljubav probuditi može (Miroslav Kraljević, Požega 1864). Basile shortened Kanižlić’s foreword and added daily prayers. Italian Jesuit Cesare Luigi Ferrari published a prayer book entitled Blago duhovno ili molitve nadarene svetiem proštenjima... (Verona 1865) for a society from Du -brovnik. This book includes Kanižlić’s prayers and contemplations, as well as those of other earlier writers (B. Kašić, I. M. Matijašević, et al.). Molitvenik za katolička poslanstva po jugoslovinskih deržavah, a manual for Dalmatian missionaries, which had been published in five editions between 1863 and 1902, is in many ways dependent on and connected to Kanižlić’s prayer book Bogoljubnost molitvena.

Ljubav Božja kao odvratiteljica od zavodljivih napasti u Kanižlićevoj Svetoj Rožaliji

The objective of this paper is to study the purpose and function of the allegorical fig ure of Love of God (also called Heavenly Love) in the religious long poem Sveta Rožalija, panoramitska djevica by Antun Kanižlić, most probably written in 1759 and published post humously in 1780. This figure appears on multiple occasions to the saint during her stay in seclusion in the cave, nourishing her, shielding and averting from numerous temptations (such as Infernal Temptation, Vanity of the World, as well as the fairy Lechery and her son Lovey-Boy 1 ). It helps her persevere in her ascetic spiritual growth and overcome all adversities plaguing her. I intend to determine and analyse in this paper which rhetorical methods it puts to use in order to persuade Rožalija to comply with her guidance, and what poetic imagery it invokes by drawing from rich mediaeval and early-modern col lective Christian imagination. I thereby analyse the Love of God not only as a theological concept and a guarantee of the divinely ordained world and value system, but primarily – which has so far possibly been neglected in literary theory and criticism – as an emotion of supreme importance (God is love, 1 John 4:8; 4:16).
