Expression of E-Cadherin in Epidermis from Wounds Treated with Costus afer Stem Juice Extract 木香茎汁提取物对伤口表皮e -钙粘蛋白表达的影响

This study investigated the expression of e-cadherin in the epidermis of re-epithelialized wound treated with Costusafer stem juice extract. Twenty-five adult female albino rats were used for the study. They were divided equally into5 treatment groups of: A – no treatment; B – iodine treatment only on the first day; C – iodine treatment for 7 days;D – Costus afer stem juice extract only on the first day; and E – Costus afer stem juice extract for 7 days. The ratswere aseptically wounded on their dorsum under ketamine hydrochloride anaesthesia. They were treated accordingto their groups and closely monitored till the wounds healed. On healing, the rats were euthanized and samples ofthe healed skin were collected and processed for immunohistochemical staining using antibodies for e-cadherin. Itwas found that group D showed highest intensity of e-cadherin expression among the treatment groups, suggestingthe influence of Costus afer stem juice extract on the process of mesenchymal-epithelial transition

The Influence of Statins on Bone Tissue in Ovariectomized Rats 他汀类药物对去卵巢大鼠骨组织的影响

Objectives: Osteoporosis is a silent, progressive, systemic skeletal disease characterized by impaired bone architecturewith decreased bone mass density, affecting mainly women. Statins, inhibitors of HMG-CoA-reductase, seem to interferewith bone formation exerting anabolic and anti-resorptive effect. The aim of the present study is to investigate theeffect of simvastatin on size parameters and bone density of mandible and femur, in an ovariectomized rat model ofosteoporosis.Methods: 50 Wistar female rats were randomized in five groups (n=10). Groups 1, 2,3 were ovariectomized, 4 and5 serve as controls. Groups 2, 3 and 5 were treated with simvastatin (0.5mg/kg/daily per os). Size parameters of theisolated femur, mandible and uterus, BMD via dual energy X-Ray absorptiometry (DEXA) and serum interleukin-13(IL-13) were estimated.Results: DEXA results showed significant decrease of BMD in ovariectomized group / controls while statins treatmentdecreased the severity of BMD lose. The serum IL-13, as osteogenesis index, seems to be positively influenced bystatins treatment. Conclusions: Statins treatment seems to restore the decreased femur and mandible parameters anduterus weight in experimental menopause following ovariectomy.
