Split ratio, i.e. the ratio of stator bore diameter to stator outer diameter, can significantly influence the torque capability and efficiency of permanent magnet brushless motors. It has been shown that the optimal split ratio for maximum specific output torque can be derived analytically. In this paper, the optimal split ratio is systematically investigated for both permanent magnet brushless AC and DC motors having overlapping or non-overlapping windings, accounting for the influence of rectangular or sinusoidal airgap flux distributions, tooth-tips and end-windings.

In this paper, the electromagnetic force acting on the arc column of 3 different type extinction units is compared using the FEM (finite element method) and the arc velocity is calculated by the drag force of the fluid mechanics. The experiment for breaking was performed in each model at 100 V in order to measure the arcing time. And its result was compared with computing values, the confirmed validity of theory. As a result, this paper proposes that the divided U-shaped grid is able to shorten arcing time and improve of the electric performance. And it suggests a methodology for comparing and analyzing the results obtained by simulation and experiment.

As one of the connections for three-phase induction motor to operate from single-phase supply, SEMIHEX connection can enable three-phase induction motor have approximated symmetrical operation. In this paper, the method of symmetrical component is used to obtain the condition for symmetrical operation, and the phasor diagram for symmetrical operation is given. Experimental studies for operation characteristics of SEMIHEX-connectecl three-phase induction motor are performed on prototype motor. It is proved that SEMIHEX connection has higher efficiency and high power factor in comparison with three-phase connection.
