Super high density optical disc by using multi-layer structure 采用多层结构的超高密度光盘

To realize a super high density optical disc, the authors made basic researches into a space layer by using a photopolymer sheet owing to the uniformity of each space layer thickness. Then a prototype disc was manufactured. Thickness variation on each sheet was within 1.3 /spl mu/m. The transcription characteristic was verified. The data-to-clock jitter of the disc was measured. The recording capacity was 27.4 GB on a 12 cm disc. The capacity of each layer was 13.7 GB. As a result of these basic researches, we realized a super high density optical disc by using multi-layer structure, it is very important to utilize a photopolymer sheet for the space layer. It then will be possible to realize the recording capacity of 50 GB or over on a 12 cm disc having a four layered structure.

High quality optical disc stampers with round edge grooves 高品质的光盘冲模,有圆边凹槽

We describe a deep groove having round edges in the optical disc substrate as one of solutions for difficulty in injection molding. The round edge deeper grooves were actually made and tested. Stampers with the round edge grooves can be easily made by modified directly engraved glass mastering. Replication separability from the stamper is markedly improved. No cloud problem, shorter cycle time at replication process and longer lifetime of stampers were confirmed.

An optical disc drive has been built according to the specifications of the DVR format, using a blue laser diode and an objective lens. New components have been developed and incorporated in the drive. such as a rigid lens objective, a plastic lens shaper, an adjustable collimator and a laser driver IC.

Simulation of phase transformations in phase-change media 相变介质中相变的模拟

We report progress towards the development of a comprehensive simulation capability of the phase-transformations in a Ge/sub 2/Sb/sub 3/Te/sub 5/ film phase change optical storage media. Our ultimate goal is to have an approach which incorporates both nucleation and growth processes in a unified manner. In the first stages, we have developed a nucleation theory of the amorphous-to-crystallization phase transformation. We have also begun to build a theory of the growth (or motion) of crystalline-amorphous boundaries in the presence of a laser field, thus initiating the study of growth processes.

Recording of 0.1 micron minimum mark size in a new phase change media 在新的相变介质中记录0.1微米的最小标记尺寸

Inorder to estimate a minimum size for phase-change marks, marks around 0.1 /spl mu/m were recorded on surface recording discs using a far field optical pickup. The shape and uniformity of these marks investigated. The shapes of phase-change marks were investigated by SEM. On the surface recording disc with AgInSbTe phase-change material, the mark size could be reduced to around O.l /spl mu/m in the tangential direction. The fluctuation in mark shape with scaling down of size was hardly recognized.

GBR (groove baseband recording) for an optical disc ROM 用于光盘ROM的沟槽基带记录

We have proposed a new recording method called groove base recording (GBR). In GBR the effect of intersymbol interference (ISI) is removed by a digital modulation such as QAM. The resultant analog waveform of the digital modulation is emboss recorded by a wobble of groove walls. Our preliminarily experiment suggested that we can achieve 1.5 times higher area density than that of DVD.

We propose a model to numerically evaluate the transient optical field in the case of magnetic super-resolution (MSR). The method can be extended to optical data storage systems involving transient effects. This model has potential application in identifying the role played by different parameters in the switching process and the optical signal and thus in their optimization.

Holographic RAM for optical fiber communications 用于光纤通信的全息RAM

A highly efficient holographic RAM operating at optical communication wavelengths is presented. It exploits a two-color technique by recording digital bytes at 488 nm and retrieving the same information at 1550 nm. A larger number of stored holograms can be easily achieved in small size crystals in order to develop a realistic device. Furthermore the stored volume holograms can be employed reversibly as a database for optical byte recognition, producing output parallel correlation peaks in accordance with the incoming information matched to the stored one.

By using a blue laser is one of the leading methods to use in which to realize high density optical disk recording. We have reported a magneto-optical recording disk that uses a magnetically induced super resolution (MSR). In this paper, we have investigated high density MO recording by the combination of a blue laser and center aperture detection type of MSR (CAD-MSR) media.

In phase change (PC) optical data storage, information is recorded as sub-micron sized amorphous marks (bits) on a moving polycrystalline chalcogenide film using a focused high power laser pulse. It raises the local temperature of the film above its melting temperature (T/sub M/) and the subsequent rapid cooling leaves an amorphous mark. These amorphous marks can be erased (i.e., re-crystallized) by locally annealing them above the glass transition temperature of the storage material under the same focused laser beam at a moderate power level. Here, we will discuss the crystallization behavior of the as-deposited, melt-quenched and primed Ge/sub 2/Sb/sub 2.3/Te/sub 5/ (GST) film used in data storage.
