The number of patients developing sterile abscesses because of hyaluronic acid (HA) filler procedures has increased for unknown reasons. We described this adverse reaction after filling with Juvederm Volux^®, the latest innovative product in the Vycross range of technology. We presented five patients with recalcitrant sterile abscesses after filling with Juvederm Volux^® who did not respond to the traditional therapy but whose lesions were resolved with the "Munhoz-Cavallieri lavage protocol" developed and recently published by the present authors. Thalassemia syndromes are a group of autosomal, recessively inherited, single-gene hemoglobinopathies with varied mucocutaneous manifestations. There is, however, a scarcity of these findings in the literature. This descriptive observational cross-sectional study was conducted to describe mucocutaneous manifestations in multi-transfused beta-thalassemia major children. The study comprised 68 thalassemia major children attending the thalassemia unit for blood transfusion at a tertiary care hospital in North India. A dermatologist conducted a detailed examination to look into the presence of any mucocutaneous manifestations, including disorders of the hair and nails. The age range of enrolled thalassemic children was 6 months-19 years, with an average age of 10.5 years; the boy versus girl ratio was 1.72:1. All enrolled children had at least one cutaneous manifestation. Common dermatologic manifestations observed in these patients included hyperpigmentation of the knuckles (60.2%), moderate pallor (42.6%), icterus (26.4%), lusterless hair (20.5%), leukonychia striata or horizontal white streaks on the nails (14.7%), and oral ulcers (10.2%). A careful evaluation of mucocutaneous manifestations, including disorders of the hair and nails, is required in multi-transfused thalassemic children to provide an early diagnosis of dermatologic manifestations.

Epsolay^TM cream is a novel topical treatment that utilizes microencapsulated benzoyl peroxide to treat moderate to severe papulopustular rosacea. It is effective at decreasing, and for some patients clearing, the papules, pustules, and telangiectasias associated with rosacea. It is well-tolerated with minimal adverse effects and has demonstrated efficacy comparable to other topical agents that are used for the condition.

A 46-year-old woman with a medical history of pseudoxanthoma elasticum presented with atopic dermatitis (AD) refractory to topical therapies (topical steroids, tacrolimus, and calcitriol), phototherapy, and excimer laser. Dupilumab was recommended, with resolution of most of her cutaneous infection.

Lightning is a rare but potentially devastating cause of injury and mortality. The cutaneous burns associated with lightning strikes demonstrate peculiar pathognomonic signs and patterns. In this review of the literature, we discuss the epidemiology and etiology of lightning injuries, lightning compared to other forms of high voltage electrical injury, the clinical features of lightning injuries, the most common cutaneous manifestations associated with lightning strikes, and the treatment and prevention of lightning injuries. Some of the cutaneous manifestations include feathering lesions, linear burns, punctate burns, and thermal injuries. While not considered true burns, Lichtenburg figures display a unique ferning pattern. Although lightning injuries are typically superficial, transient, and resolve relatively quickly compared to other electrical burns, the ability to recognize their cutaneous manifestations may improve emergent care and life-saving measures for these victims. Additionally, superficial surface burns secondary to lightning injury do not preclude systemic injury and significant pathology may be underlying.

Erosive pustular dermatosis (EPD) is a rare entity, but it is generally overlooked or missed, rather than rarely encountered. It presents with erosions and shallow ulcers, accompanied by delayed healing and associated with cutaneous atrophy, rather than pustules. It exhibits predominance for women, with a predilection for a chronically sun-damaged scalp and, less commonly, the extremities, particularly the legs, as well as the face and mucosal surfaces. The role of infection, actinic damage, trauma, hormones, autoimmune disease, cutaneous atrophy, and genetics in the pathogenesis of EPD has been described in literature. Increased awareness and a high index of suspicion permit prompt treatment with topical corticosteroids, with or without oral zinc, followed by maintenance therapy with topical calcineurin inhibitors. Prevention, prior recognition, and prompt treatment are required for addressing this complex condition. (SKINmed. 2023;21:12-19).
