This quantitative survey study tends to explore the current homework assignment and evaluation practices in Pakistan like perception of teachers about homework, purposes of assigning homework and type of feedback strategies adopted by teachers for homework evaluation. The sample was the 100 (57 female, 43 male) junior school teachers and 275 (125 male, 150 female) students of 1st and 2nd classes of Sargodha city. Two research instruments Teachers’ questionnaire regarding homework practices, Homework assessment analysis checklist, were developed and used on the bases of four factors planning, assigning, feedback and advantages of homework. It was concluded that the female teachers were better in planning, assigning and evaluation of homework than the male teachers. Data obtained from checklist revealed that majority of the teachers did not focus on written comments, correction of mistakes and subject relevant comments. Most of the teachers’ assigned revision based homework and did not focus on other higher level purposes of assigning homework.

The major interruption is going to occur in children learning at all stages of Education because of worldwide closure of Educational institutions. Such interference in formal schooling experiences adversely affect academic outcomes of school age children. This study was qualitative in nature and phenomenology research design was adopted to investigate, how COVID-19 impacted early childhood care and Education in Pakistan. Sample selected through criterion sampling, a purposive sampling method. This study was based on 17 in-depth semi-structured interviews from teachers and parents of pre-school children. The results revealed that school closure due to COVID-19 had numerous adverse effects on dropout rate of students and learning of overall and learners with low readiness. It also effected children physical, social, emotional, language and literacy skills' development. Children emotional, literacy and social, language development identified most effected, whereas physical development were the least effected, among learning competencies reported by teachers. Parental involvement also contributed in their children learning through various activities during the closure but those activities were unstructured, unplanned, limited and not fruitful to buildup learning competencies in children appropriately. Whatever children learnt during this period, their learning was non-directional. Results may help school practitioners to make resolution about how to revive these effects on early years learning and education. This study may be a stepping stone for formal schooling in the course of future pandemics.

The lethal COVID-19 has drastically influenced normal life, not of people but of nations across the globe. To curb the spread of the novel virus, global restrictions subjected to the closures of workplaces, shops, malls, and schools had confined people to their houses. While parents, dealt with pressures of financial insecurities, reduced social support, increased work hours owing to online working, and carrying on with the household, thereby emulating teachers to ensure effective online learning had been a real struggle. This study, therefore, aims at understanding the factors, affecting parenting amidst and post COVID-19. The purposeful sample yielded 8 participants comprised of 5 mothers and 3 fathers; who necessarily have one or more children under the age of 6. All participants were conveniently approached through social media. However, to ensure inclusivity, an uneducated mother belonging to the lower middle class was personally approached for participation in the study. Thematic analysis was conducted to deduce meanings from the data gathered through one on one interviews with the participants. Interestingly, the findings revealed that factors affecting parenting differ for both genders. Isolation, though, took its toll on parents, mothers, however, have turned more harsh and aggressive in their dealings with their children. Fathers called COVID-19 as a blessing in disguise, as they had more time to spend with their children. The findings of the study will be beneficial for parents, the government, and society on the whole. There is also a need for counseling services for parents that can help them in addressing their shortcomings while parenting young children in stressful times.

The intricate bond of teaching-learning within the contexts of respective cultures, which addresses teaching as an essential cultural practice, has become the focus of comparative education researchers in recent decades. It is evident that a social activity such as teaching cannot be devoid of cultural context and cannot be successful if an education system's cultural intricacies are not considered. Alexander's Culture and Pedagogy (2001) and Tobin, Hsueh, Karasawa's Preschool in Three Cultures Revisited (2009) are two contributions in comparative education literature with the buzz word 'culture' shared in the titles of both books. Alexander's work is an excellent study of five cultures started right from the educational histories, which moves from macro to micro and ends into the elementary classrooms. Tobin et al., on the other hand, contributed in the form of a sequel to an earlier book and revisited the same three cultures after nearly two decades to explore the themes of continuity and change in the preschools of these countries.

The purpose of this qualitative study was to explore teachers’ practices of parental involvement at the ECD level in Gilgit city. The study had focused on the application of Epstein’s fourteen parental involvement strategies in the ECD schools of Gilgit city. Using a convenient sample of four ECD schools having four ECD levels, data was collected from sixteen ECD teachers (one teacher from each ECD level of each school). The findings were compared first, within the same ECD school teachers, then across the ECD school teachers against each question. Results indicated that various ECD levels are applying diverse strategies for parental involvement in order to help their children how to read, listen and write. Majority of the participants design project works, assign home projects, making models, coloring, cutting and pasting different collections. However, there is lack of awareness about how to make sure parents are effectively involved in the ECD level.

Storytelling has been used as an oldest form of teaching. Even though for years, storytellers shared stories with children, up till now very few researches have been conducted on the impact of storytelling on children’s learning. The current research was an effort to explore the effect of storytelling on listening skills and vocabulary of preschool children. This study was a quasi-experimental design. The total sample comprised of 14 participants of preschool, aged 5 years divided into two; control (n=7) and experimental (n=7) groups through non-random sampling. The data was collected and assessed by means of globally recognized scales Morrow’s Retelling 10 Point Scale for listening skills and Vocabulary Knowledge Scale (VKS) for vocabulary. Six stories were selected for storytelling; first story for pre-test, four stories for interventions and sixth story for post-test story telling. The statistical analysis was done by conducting independent samples t-test and paired samples t-test to compare scores among control and experimental groups. The post-test results and the researcher’s observations affirmed that preschool children who were exposed to storytelling with props were highly engaged in story retelling; incorporating minute details which verified listening attentively and carefully maturing their listening skills and revealed better, meaningful and deeper understanding of vocabulary. Keywords: Storytelling, Listening Skills, Vocabulary, Preschool
