Tourette syndrome is a neurological and psychiatric disorder that is accompanied by involuntary bodily movements and / or making meaningless sounds that begin in childhood. Recurrent symptoms is an important feature. Despite its low prevalence, patients can come to primary health care services for various reasons and their controls can be done by their family physicians in coordination with the relevant departments. In this article, we presented a case of late diagnosis of Tourette’s syndrome who developed myocarditis due to antipsychotic use during follow-up.

A pandemic is the spread of a disease, an infection factor or a health problem in a wide area like worldwide. Pandemics affect an important part of the population in the whole world. A pandemic is the spread of a disease, an infection factor or a health problem in a wide area. Pandemics affect an important part of the population in the whole world. Protection and control measures should be taken during an epidemic. These measures are generally for resource control, mode of transmission and healthy individuals. Filiation activities on COVID-19 have been being performed meticulously in our country since the first index case was detected. The following case series were presented in order to explain how filiation activities were performed in Kayseri and in our country. We presented four case series. The most important point in coping with epidemics is having a strong infrastructure in healthcare system. It is considered that the works of filiation teams as an example for medical surveillance have had a great contribution to the management of pandemic.

Introduction: Due to the COVID-19 pandemic in our country, it has been decided by the Higher Education Council (CoHE) to apply online measurement and evaluation in higher education, valid only for the pandemic period. Aim: In our study, it is aimed to evaluate the basic analyzes of the multiple-choice assessment tool, which is applied online for 1st year and 3rd commitee students at Süleyman Demirel University, with classical test and generalizability theory. Method: Our study is designed in quantitative research design. The population of the study was determined as first year students actively studying at Süleyman Demirel University Faculty of Medicine (n: 271). In the study, the 3rd commitee applied online to the 1st year students was analyzed with the multiple choice assessment tool SPSS and EduG. Results: When the exam was evaluated over 100 points, the average was 78.5 ± 11.05 (min: 27.4; max: 98.0), variance 122.229, kurtosis -1.196 and skewness 1.683. The average item difficulty was 0.785, the mean discrimination index was 0.262, and the reliability coefficient (KR-20) was 0.902. For the 95-item exam, the G value was calculated as 0.91 and the Phi value as 0.90. Discussion: Our faculty has also ensured the monitoring of measurement-evaluation practices in distance education in line with the recommendations of CoHE and the Association for Evaluation and Accreditation of Medical Education Programs. Although the evaluation of a single assessment tool was considered as a limitation for our study, our study provided valuable information about the review of the basic analysis and assessment of the multiple-choice measurement tools. Based on this experience, we believe that the basic analysis of online measurement and evaluation applications can be preferred for the analysis of measurement tools after the pandemic.

Introduction and Aim: Social awareness is important to recognize the behaviors of children with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) at an early stage. The aim of this study is to measure the ASD knowledge levels and to evaluate the autism awareness of the parents who applied to an university hospital’s pediatric outpatient clinic for their children aged under 6 years. Methods: This descriptive study is conducted with 110 parents between 18-22 February 2019. The used questionnaire had 43 questions; first 5 questions were about sociodemographic information, questions between 6-38 were about definition and symptoms of autism, questions between 39-43 were about the thoughts of parents about the role of a person with ASD in society. The tenth question was about the sources of information on ASD. The questions that used to measure the knowledge level of ASD were inspired by the developmental tests used in children and the questionnaires used in previous studies on this subject. Collected data was analysed with multiple Chi-Square test. p values less than 0,05 was considered as statistically significant. Results: Of the participants 69,1% (n= 76) were women and the mean age was 34,8 ± 7,2. Of the participants 92,7% (n= 102) have heard the word autism before. Age, gender and education level did not have a significant effect on hearing the word autism. The rate of the correct definition of autism was significantly higher in participants below thirty-five years of age and those who had a higher education level (p= 0,014; p= 0,007). Discussion and Conclusion: Since the media / television / internet constitute most of the information sources about autism, the role of these channels is important to increase the ASD knowledge level and ASD awareness in the society. The rate of the correct definition of autism is higher in participants with a higher level of education similar to this study. It is considered that educational studies for autism will yield positive results, since the ASD awareness rate was higher in participants with higher level of education.

Caring for dementia patients results in varying degrees of burden. Caregiver burden is related to various factors such as demographics, health-related, caregiving situation, social resources, culture, and financial status. While paid care is more common in Western societies and its emergence go back to the old years, it has become widespread in Eastern regions in the last few decades.(3,4) The relationship between pay and caregiving burden in dementia patients has not been investigated in our province yet. Our aim in this study is to compare caregiving burden and depression in paid caregivers with those who are not paid and reveal the related factors.

Objective: Nicotine metabolism has important effects on sleep. People who quit smoking due to nicotine withdrawal during the smoking cessation process may experience different sleep disorders. Side effects of pharmacological agents used to quit smoking (Varenicline, Bupropion and Nicotine Replacement Therapy [NRT]) on sleep quality are also known. The aim of this study is to investigate the relationship between smoking cessation and the preferred treatment approach with sleep disorders. Material and Methods: 520 participants who applied to OMU Family Medicine Smoking Cessation Clinic in 2019 were accepted as the study population. Demographic data of all participants in the survey, smoking characteristics (Fagerstrom Nicotine Dependency Test score [FNDT], pack / year, etc.), sleep characteristics (sleep duration, evening awakenings, etc.) and Pittsburg Sleep Quality Index (PSQI) at their first visit and one recorded months later. Standard treatment of our clinic was applied to all participants. 387 volunteers (71.6%) without any data loss were accepted as the study group. Results: 165 of 387 (71.6%) people quit smoking in the first month (42.6%). Varenicline was used in 102 (61.8%), Bupropion in 25 (15.1%) and NRT alone in 38 (23.0%) of these patients. Mean sleep time (hours) did not change in this group before and after quitting (6.4 ± 4.8 hours versus 6.3 ± 5.0 hours p> 0.05). There was no difference between the mean PSQI scores of the patient groups receiving different treatments one month later (p> 0.05). Complaints of insomnia (n=5, 17.5%) and drowsiness (n=4, 14.6%) were more common in patients who received Varenicline (x2=12,145, p <0,001). Conclusion: No difference was detected in the sleep quality of patients who were used different treatment options to quit smoking in the first month.
