Conventional switched capacitor converters have an inherent drawback that their efficiency is much decreased as the output current is increased. This inherent drawback is due to a periodical forced charging and discharging operation in the internal switched capacitors accompanied by a large capacitor current, so that their efficiency can not be increased by decreasing its internal resistance. As a result, conventional switched capacitor converters have been limited to be used with a very small output current. To solve this problem we presented some novel switched capacitor converter topologies that use a resonant operation instead of the forced charging and discharging operation. Their advantage over conventional switched capacitor converters is a high efficiency even in a high output current region. In this paper, the operation analysis and steady-state characteristics are described in detail for a double boost type switched capacitor converter, and they are confirmed by experiments.

In this paper, we propose a new controller design method for decentralized system. The method includes an arrangement scheme of multi-controllers and a controller design procedure via the LMI method. The arrangement scheme is based on analysis of a transitional probability matrix, which is induced from a connection matrix. In the scheme, we characterize the stable equilibrium value of probability matrix as the dense of the connection and determines the order of the subsystem. Multi-controllers are arranged according to the priory order and constitute a decentralized control system. The controller design utilizes the function of LMI based methods, which enables one to put constraints on the form of the feedback controller. By applying a change of variables method and setting up the structure of variable to be the same as the controller structure, the desired controller is obtained. We show a design procedure of a stabilizing controller. The validity of proposed methods is examined on a numerical model.

The concept of square wave compensation is studied for the application to the voltage dip restorer in this paper. Both single square wave and dual square wave are used in this analysis. Both methods have shown to have a fast dynamic response as compared to sinusoidal compensation. The dual square wave can also compensate for the zero-crossing and the distortion is small. Experimental results confirm the proposed method.

The authors have recently developed a new method for identification of Volterra kernels of nonlinear systems by use of pseudorandom M-sequence and correlation technique. This method is applied to the measurement of Volterra kernels of those nonlinear systems having backlash type nonlinearity. The comparison of actual output and the estimated output by use of the measured Volterra kernels show that we can still use Volterra kernel representation for those backlash-type nonlinear systems.

A quality prognostics scheme for predicting the product quality during the semiconductor or TFT-LCD manufacturing processes is proposed in this work. This scheme considers the current production equipment parameters sensed during the manufacturing process and several previous quality data collected from the measurement equipment to predict the quality of the product in the future. This quality prognostics scheme is composed of a conjecture model and a prediction model. The conjecture model itself can also be applied for the purpose of virtual metrology. With this two-tier arrangement, the quality prognostics scheme becomes more applicable. The algorithms adopted by the conjecture model can be various and exchangeable. Basically, numerous algorithms of artificial intelligence and statistics may be applied. The selection criteria are based on the physics of the equipment and the property of the measured parameters. The prediction algorithms used in the prediction model are weighted moving average, neural network, or any algorithm with prediction capability. Besides, the quality prognostics scheme possesses a self-searching mechanism and a self-adjusting mechanism. Upon the new conjecture or prediction algorithm being selected, the self-searching mechanism will be activated. The self-searching mechanism will not stop until the best combination of various parameters/functions used by the conjecture algorithm or prediction algorithm is found. Then, the conjecture or prediction model enters the normal running mode. After a period of time, if the prediction accuracy exceeds an acceptable bound or the equipment properties are altered due to scheduled maintenance or part change, the self-adjusting mechanism is launched to tune the system parameters to bring the prediction accuracy within the acceptable bounds.

This paper presents new method of solving inverse kinematics problem for robot manipulators. It is impossible to solve inverse kinematics problem in singular configuration until today. In this proposal, we can get the most suitable angle by using Newton method, minimizing the difference between target and present position. A numerical study of a three-dimensional three-link manipulator confirms the validity of the proposed method.

Generally, It is supposed that there is the difference of 20% at least between the inductance at a light load and the one at the ratings load. Position sensorless control methods robust for the change of the inductance have been proposed by other researchers, but they have the demerits that the system configuration and/or the calculation scheme is complex and that it is difficult to cope with a rapid change of the inductance. Although the authors are studying a position sensorless control in all speed ranges in synchronous reluctance motors, first the method which can drive in steady in more than 10% of rating speed has been investigated. The method is characterized by the calculation scheme for the position estimation and the use of the inductance table for stable speed control. In this paper, the merits of the proposal position calculation scheme and using the inductance table are shown theoretically and through experiments.

Fieldbus technology has been widely used in industrial control system. The coexistence of different kinds of fieldbus standards brings the problem of fieldbus interoperability. This paper proposes a solution named extensible device description based on XML for fieldbus interoperability. With XML we can define standardized fieldbus device description language and uniform interface between configurator and device description source files. The DTD for XML-based fieldbus device description files for fieldbus control system is given in this paper. The interfaces for parsing device description source files are also defined.
