Organized for specialists in several fields, Brachytherapy contains site-specific chapters that discuss how the evolving role of advanced image guidance has demonstrated greater efficacy and less toxicity. Clinical vignettes with images now accompany all site-specific chapters. The chapter on prostate brachytherapy has been expanded to include other indications in the genitourinary system, and there are two entirely new chapters--one chronicling the history of brachytherapy and the other detailing the emergence of skin brachytherapy.

If the SLN does not contain cancer cells, it is considered negative (healthy) and suggests that other nodes in the area are also negative (healthy). If the SLN is found to contain cancer cells, it is considered positive (cancer in the lymph nodes). This suggests that other nodes in the area may be positive therefore an axillary lymph node dissection (ALND) is done to check for spread of the cancer. This involves removing ten to twenty lymph nodes from the armpit during the operation.
