Water is a substance of extreme importance for the existence of life, but has unequal distribution. Industrial development has allowed an increase in the high concentration of non-biodegradable waste materials such as toxic metals. The aim of this study was to analyze the use of biomass obtained by organic matter, stemmed pruning gardening, specifically Zoysia japonica (Esmeralda), the adsorption of cadmium present in a solution concentration of 0.930 ppm, simulating effluents from industrial sources. In the experimental tests carried out in laboratories now Araxá Environmental efficiency was analyzed coagulation and precipitation of unwanted impurities by adsorption, which is due to the presence of electric charges on the surfaces of the solid adsorbent and the chemical species to be adsorbed. The experimental results optimizing: the contact time between the organic material and the effluent contaminated with cadmium, the influence of pH and quantity of organic matter used in the treatment. It was also possible to assess the relationship between the viscosity of the solution through the adsorption and diffusion of ions in solution. The results showed that the best efficiency of the alternative method employing grass trimming to remove toxic metals in wastewater treatment was, mildly basic pH, since this means the solution had lower viscosity and the time of contact between organic material and the contaminated effluent was four hours, 20 grams of organic material per liter of contaminated effluent. Under these conditions there was a reduction in the concentration of cadmium of 63.33%, showing that the alternative method besides being inexpensive, easy to perform is also efficient for the adsorption of toxic metals present in wastewater, thus contributing to minimize severe impacts these metals bring to people's health and the environment.

Tutoring math at De Anza has been a new experience for me. I had tutored younger children before, but it was not comparable to this 8 hr/week job in which I was working with students my age or older. Through the tutoring course, I’ve learned various ways to address the learning habits of my tutees and adapt more to their needs as students. There were also topics that we discussed in tutoring class that I had no idea about, for example, students with learning disabilities. At the start of tutoring, I definitely had many questions running through my head, but now that I am more experienced, I can answer those questions and even suggest advice to new tutors have similar questions. Looking back on the quarter, I’d say that tutoring was a demanding job for me: I had to be prepared to answer questions, organize myself, be patient, and learn my tutees’ strengths and weaknesses, but it was also rewarding to help students. Perhaps my reflection of my quarter tutoring can help others.
