Pseudo-chaotic time hopping (PCTH) is an encoding/modulation scheme proposed for UWB (ultra-wide band) impulse radio. PCTH exploits concepts from symbolic dynamics to generate aperiodic spreading sequences. We present a multiple access technique suitable for the pseudo-chaotic time hopping scheme.

M-ary UWB system using Walsh codes 使用沃尔什码的超宽带系统

Much attention has been paid to a new form of spread spectrum technique called the ultra wideband impulse radio (UWB-IR) system for future high speed wireless communication services. We present an M-ary scheme that is effective to reduce interference of UWB systems to existing radio systems. The paper presents both theoretic analysis and BER-based computer simulation evaluations of the proposed scheme and shows that the proposed system can overperform the conventional UWB system.

Ultra wideband indoor radio channel models: preliminary results 超宽带室内无线电信道模型:初步结果

Knowledge of the signal propagation mechanisms in the channel is vital for the radio system design and the system performance analysis. However, currently published wideband or narrowband radio channel models do not offer spatial resolution high enough for the ultra wideband (UWB) applications and real channel measurements are needed. The preliminary UWB radio channel model for a selected radio link-configuration in an indoor environment is given.

Radio frequency interference issues in impulse radio multiple access communication systems 脉冲无线电多址通信系统中的射频干扰问题

Impulse radio systems use very short pulses. Consequently, the spectrum of the transmitted signal spreads over several gigahertz and overlaps with RF bands occupied by other communication systems. As a result, radio frequency interference (RFI) affects the received signal. We present an analysis of the effects of RFI to a victim UWB receiver. Conditions for RFI cancellation for a large class of interfering signals are derived and it is shown that accurate frequency estimation of the interfering signal is necessary in order to provide interference cancellation. Finally, we give the level of accuracy that guarantees that the theoretical results hold in practice.

Rapid acquisition of ultra-wideband signals in the dense multipath channel 密集多径信道中超宽带信号的快速采集

Efficient serial search strategies are presented and shown to reduce drastically the mean acquisition time for UWB signals in a dense multipath environment. Inherent in traditional serial search problems is the assumption that only a single bin or a small number of consecutive bins can properly terminate the search. This assumption leads to search strategies which tend to be linear in nature, e.g., a linear sweep of the uncertainty region. Because of the dense multipath channel present in most UWB systems, this assumption is invalid as seen by the channel's relatively large delay spread. A generalized analysis of various search algorithms is presented based on a Markov chain model of a simple single-dwell serial search. The results from this analysis reveal that the linear search has a considerably larger mean acquisition time than the more efficient search strategy termed the bit reversal search.

On designing the optimal template waveform for UWB impulse radio in the presence of multipath 多径存在下UWB脉冲无线电最优模板波形的设计

Using an appropriate template waveform matched to the received signal allows the energy of the received signal to be extracted efficiently. This efficiency becomes vital for ultra wide bandwidth (UWB) impulse radio in the presence of multipath, where each path undergoes a different channel, causing distortion in the received pulse shape due to a variety of factors, such as different amounts of attenuation for different frequencies (see Qui, R.C. and I-Tal Lu, IEEE Trans. on Vehicular Tech., vol.48, no.1, 1999; Qui, R.C., IEEE Vehicular Tech. Conf., 1998). In such a situation, using a clean ideal line of sight path signal as a template may degrade the performance due to the mismatches between the template waveform and the received signal. Furthermore, because of inherent filtering in the RF processing (i.e., antennas, amplifiers, etc.), it is often difficult to determine even such a clean line of sight pulse. Algorithms for designing optimal template waveforms for UWB impulse radio are developed and the improvement over a more traditional template waveform used for this kind of radio is illustrated.

On the UWB system performance studies in AWGN channel with interference in UMTS band UMTS波段干扰下AWGN信道UWB系统性能研究

This paper studies the performances of ultra wideband (UWB) systems in an AWGN channel when interference in the UMTS/WCDMA band is present. The interfering band in the frequency division duplexing mode has been considered to be fully covered for both uplink and downlink cases. The interference is actually modelled as sinc-pulse jamming having a spectrum in a predefined UMTS band. The uncoded UWB system performance is studied through the bit-error-rate as a function of signal-to-noise ratio as well as jamming-to-signal power ratio. Several modifications of a generic Gaussian pulse have been selected for the deeper study. The UWB systems are based on time hopping and direct sequence spread spectrum techniques, which utilizes a binary baseband pulse amplitude data modulation. The results showed that UWB system performance degradation is the highest when the interfering signal and the nominal center frequency of the UWB system overlap. UWB systems based on the time hopping concept seem to outperform those based on the corresponding direct sequence concepts. However, for high values of interfering power, the UWB performances are converging.

This paper illustrates the complexity of issues that arise in the accurate measurement and interpretation of ultra wideband (UWB) interference effects in narrowband receivers. The behavior of an amateur radio receiver in the presence of sinusoidal and UWB interference is studied. We characterize antenna response and receiver nonlinearities, which lead to an understanding of UWB effects on the receiver output during outdoor response measurements as a function of range and antenna orientation.

Multi-user perspectives in UWB communications networks 超宽带通信网络中的多用户视角

Ultra-wideband technology provides robust high data rate networks that can be used to meet the needs of wireless personal area network (WPAN) applications. An essential part of this design is the selection of a multiplexing technique to provide multiple physical channels (piconets) from the single shared UWB band. This paper provides an overview of multiplexing techniques and suggests ways in which they can be applied to UWB networks. Relative advantages and challenges of each technique are identified in order to understand the suitabilitity of each for use in a multi-piconet WPAN system.
