This paper proposes a functional model of the reference implementation in PITS - a general Internet protocol conformance test system developed in Tsinghua University, China. This model consists of four components: PCO manager, protocol adapter, network adapter and TTCN assistant. Various functions of RI are identified and classified into these four components. With the aid of RI, PITS is applied to test many OSI and Internet protocols.

A new adaptive video rate control scheme that makes the perceived picture quality of the reconstructed video as uniform as possible for time-varying bandwidth channels is presented. The proposed scheme dynamically skips the frames or adjusts the quantization parameters in a frame-basis according to the frame coding mode (FCM). It exploits the human visual perception that human eyes are less sensitive to quantization noise in a rapid-motion video and to frame-skipping in a slow-motion video. Simulation results demonstrate that the proposed adaptive rate control scheme can provide a better-perceived picture quality than the existing method (TMN-8).

The paper presents an efficient algorithm for routing and wavelength assignment for dynamic lightpath establishment as well as bandwidth guaranteed path protection against single link failure in WDM mesh network. Several protection strategies for multiwavelength optical network have been studied to indicate their relative efficiency in terms of network blocking probability and resource requirement.

IP services are expanding in scope from server-based services, such as email and WWW, to end-to-end communication services, such as instant messaging and IP telephony. This trend indicates the potential for the emergence of new services and new forms of communication. However, there are new issues to be solved if we are to provide secure, easy-to-use, and convenient end-to-end communication. These issues relate to security, service specifications and quality. This paper identifies the need for and role of network functions for supporting end-to-end communication. It then proposes session control (using Session Initiation Protocol (SIP)), related technologies, and a network architecture that takes advantage of this session control to offer solutions to the identified issues.

This paper discusses the implementation of transport layer security protocol (TLSP) in Telnet application. The purposes of this research are to find and to implement an algorithm protocol that provides privacy and reliability between client and server before the connection establish and during the negotiation session in Telnet. A client server prototype system called SecTel is implemented that run on Windows Operating System.

The most serious problem faced in zero-intermediate frequency (IF) receiver is DC-offset. DC-offset is caused by leakage of the local oscillator (LO) into the down converter input. The receiver performance is significantly degraded due to DC-offset. This paper illustrate, analyze, simulate and compare two digital signal processing (DSP) algorithms which remove this residual DC-offset. In the analysis, the settling time, maximum fluctuation and variance of the two DC estimators were derived.

The simulation results and analysis of a novel transmission technique namely double carrier modulation/differential detection are presented, we show how the differential detection technique improves the system performance significantly, we also demonstrate that this technique overcomes the problems associated with voltage threshold in conventional systems, and how it suggest the possibility to double up the conventional long distance without amplifiers with a BER of as good as 10/sup -13/ at 2.5 Gbps over 150 Km distance with 0 dBm transmit power. The new scheme also shows a much slower degradation with distance than that of conventional IM/DD system.

The requirement for personal identification in computer based access control has resulted in an increased interest in biometrics. Recognition of the fingerprint becomes a complex computer vision problem while dealing with noisy and low quality images. The algorithm shown below is used for enhancement of fingerprint image using fuzzy logic. This paper proposes and describes the neuro-fuzzy based method for enhancement of the fingerprint image.

This paper presents the propagation modeling of 900 MHz cellular mobile system for design of the coverage areas. The model was modified from models of Lee and Hata for appropriate use in Dhaka City area. Having measured the field strengths at overall 56 locations around Dhaka, we found that the propagation-path loss at 1 mile, L/sub 0/ is 80.2 dBm, and the slope of the path loss, /spl gamma/, is 29.8 dB/dec. The measurements are based on a reference regarding with the antenna heights of the base station and receiver at 30 and 3 meters and with the antenna gains of the base station and receiver at 6 dB/sub d/ and 0 dB/sub d/ respectively.

The multirate multicast congestion control (MR-MCC) scheme has been considered as a suitable scheme for multicasting for a very large heterogeneous group of receivers. In this work, we propose a new design of MR-MCC using explicit rate adjustment based on TCP throughput equation and packet-pair probe. The design goals are: scalability, responsiveness, fast convergence, fairness (including interprotocol fairness, intraprotocol fairness, intrasession fairness and TCP-friendliness) and feasibility. We have implemented our design into a network simulator (ns2) and undertake a performance evaluation to investigate it. The results show that our protocol holds good properties of the design goal.
