The advancement of semiconductor and ubiquitous technology resulted in a smart sensor networking system, which is an application of wireless sensor networks to health care applications (WMSN). Wireless Medical Sensor Network (WMSN) is a real-time continuous patient monitoring system, which provides a cost-optimal wireless sensor networking platform to track patient's physiological data through the sensors attached to patient body. Limited computational power, storage, communication and energy capacity of WMSN demands for energy efficient, light weight and high security mutual authentication schemes which provides unbreakable connectivity for end to end secure data delivery. In 2014, He et al. proposed an authentication scheme for WMSN and claimed that their scheme is light weight and resists all major cryptographic attacks. However, in this paper we will show that He et al scheme is vulnerable to offline password guessing attack and other major ones. As a part of our contribution, we will propose an energy efficient, light weight and highly secure authentication scheme for WMSN which 56% more energy efficient compared to He et al scheme and 20.18% compared to Kumar et al scheme.

Trends show that machine-to-machine (M2M) devices are going to grow by orders of magnitude, far surpassing the number of mobile devices. This unprecedented scale and the fact that M2M traffic typically consists of many small-sized transmissions make the data and signaling overhead of introducing M2M traffic into cellular networks a big concern. Fortunately, it is possible to exploit certain unique characteristics of M2M traffic, like periodicity and delay tolerance in its scheduling, to alleviate these concerns. In this paper, we propose SERA - a two-level Scheduled Randomization framework, which does precisely this, and efficiently integrates M2M traffic into cellular networks. Broadly, SERA consists of (i) a central controller that defines certain coarse-level transmission parameters to govern M2M traffic in the next scheduling period and (ii) a simple distributed randomized algorithm at each M2M device that governs fine-grained transmission decisions within the period. Using experiments and analyses, we show that compared to existing techniques for M2M traffic management, SERA can lower peak traffic load by 30-40%, bring down the total time spent under congestion by 30-40%, and that these gains are robust to errors in traffic prediction.

Robust cell search and synchronization are key to the performance of LTE and LTE Advanced Systems. In this work, we propose efficient algorithms for synchronization-signal detection for cell identification in the presence of large frequency and channel uncertainties. In the first stage, we detect the primary synchronization signal (PSS) via a novel window based peak pick method. The detection process also establishes frame timing, integer and fractional frequency offset. In the second stage, we identify the secondary synchronization signal (SSS) via a novel two-step detect-validate approach. On successful validation of the two stage process, the cell identification is established. Simulations confirm the robustness of the proposed methods to severe frequency and channel uncertainties.

In last decade, there has been immense focus on the detection of human activities using wearable sensors for applications such as health-care and fitness. In this paper we focus on agriculture applications and present a wearable sensor shirt, which can be conveniently worn by the farmers for the detection of the agriculture activities like digging, harvesting and bed making. The knowledge of agricultural activities being performed on the farm is important for rendering the advisory services to the remotely located farmers in order to improve their crop yield. We have designed a wearable sensor shirt with acceleration sensors stitched to the wrists and interfaced to the mobile phone through an arduino board. The experimental results depict the detection of various agricultural activities like Manual digging, Harvesting, Bed making and Sowing. A comparative analysis in terms of classification accuracy has been performed by considering different number of sensors and their placement on the farmer's body.

Data exchange plays an important role in public healthcare. Having timely access to right data can allow detection of the spread of a disease, assess effectiveness of government schemes, etc. In order to improve policies and provide awareness, various government healthcare schemes are run which generate a huge amount of data. This data is collected by number of field workers and is then transferred to central repositories for further analysis. While the data eventually reaches researchers and scientist for analysis, the delay (usually in months) hampers timely actions that can be taken. In this paper, we propose a Publish/Subscribe based Architecture moderated through a web service that can enable an early exchange of healthcare data among different interested parties e.g. doctors, researchers, and policy makers. Our architecture handles the privacy and security requirements, and also provides interoperability support for data exchange. We have also highlighted how the architecture deals with the key challenges involved in public health information exchange.
