We report on the first diode-pumped yellow laser operation of a Tb3+-laser. Without any nonlinear frequency conversion, the laser delivers 13.8 mW at a wavelength of 587.4 nm with a slope efficiency of 22%.

We study the role of sub-micron defect in the characteristics of fiber for potential nonlinear applications. Out of several geometries of fiber designs, we recognize that fiber with minimum positive dispersion along with a large nonlinearity is a potential candidate for continuum generation. Using the theory of soliton fission, we demonstrate the role of soliton self-frequency shift in the spectral broadening and an octave-spanning continuum in 1 m of defective core PCF is reported.

We present a monolithic pump light geometry for compact thin disk lasers. Trapping of pump light within the laser medium is achieved by proper choice of dielectric coating and angle of the wedged laser disk.
