This paper briefly reviews some developments in New Zealand in highway and traffic engineering including: prevention of landslides; developments with road materials, particularly polymer-modified bitumens; the potential for intelligent vehicle highway systems (IVHS); the road management and maintenance system (RAMM); and work on pedestrian crossings including investigating the introduction of Puffin crossings to New Zealand.
