even outside of erudite culture. We propose in this communication to approach the sound score of puppet theater based on a case study, focusing on traditional puppets that integrate contemporary Portuguese theatrical life. We will try to describe the dramaturgical dimension of the use of the music that is part of the spectacles, and of the voices that the manipulators, in their lines, lend to the puppet-objects. We will also emphasize the many other sounds that, with the distorted voices of the characters and the proliferation of noises - screams, blows, beats - are constitutive of the show and define the rhythm in performance.

Évora has been an important centre of Marian cult since the Middle Ages, with the dedication of the Cathedral’s main altar to Our Lady of Assumption as a central point. It was also an important musical centre and the antiphon Recordare, Virgo Mater is one of the musical works associated with a Marian feast known as the Miracle of the Wax. One of the Cathedral chapel masters of the seventeenth century, Diogo Dias Melgaz, wrote a polychoral motet using this text the first known work to set it to music, followed by other works written in the eighteenth century with this text. Some of them point towards the offertorium of the Mass for Our Lady of Sorrows and others toward the celebration of Vespers and Litany. The association of the musical works with the liturgical feasts seems apparent and as such establishes a strong identity relation between the music produced in Évora Cathedral and the particular celebrations of the city.

This research focuses on the musical life of the city of Seville during the Dictatorship of Miguel Primo de Rivera (1923-1930). The purpose of this study is to offer a first approach to the sound map of the Andalusian capital, delving into four typologies of musical spaces: theaters, salons, temples and the street. In this way, this paper projects not only to expose the musical manifestation developed in these spaces, but also to Universidad de Cádiz (España; Adjudicataria de una ayuda para contratos predoctorales de FPU-MECD desde septiembre de 2015. Paisagens sonoras urbanas: História, Memória e Património Vanda de Sá e Antónia Fialho Conde _______________________________________________________________________________ 62 inquire into the institutions and personalities that contributed to these taking place. Therefore, it is necessary to study these elements both in isolation, and integrated into the complex networks that compose the musical framework of the city. Fundamentally, this approach draws upon mostly daily newspapers published in Seville at the time. However, the rich information provided by the press has been completed with data from other archival sources, such as the concert programs or the collection of letters conserved in the Manuel de Falla Archive (Granada) and the ERESBIL Archive (Rentería, Guipúzcoa).
