An application gateway to deploy high-quality video communications in various network environments 用于在各种网络环境下部署高质量视频通信的应用网关

Video communication is being popular by spreading broadband networks. Realization of this kind of communications is important to deploy IPv6. However, many almost of commercial video conference systems do not work in IPv6 networks. We developed an application gateway called as "PTGATE" to extend available scenes of video conferences. PTGATE has three functions: IPv4 over IPv6 tunneling to use video conference systems for IPv4, multicast tunneling over unicast networks, and error recovery using FEC. By using PTGATE, the current resources of video conferences correspond to various network environments. In this paper, we describe the overview of PTGATE and its evaluation. Also, we show practical experiments of PTGATE using actual networks

The network mobility technology in the Internet area has been discussed for a long time and the specification has been finally published as RFC3963 from IETF. We had created an actual mobile network which contains a few hundreds of nodes to prove the technology works in a real environment. We confirmed that the technology works well basically however, we faced a long service disruption while moving. In this paper, we discuss the detailed configuration of the mobile network and the problem faced during the operation

Mill: an information management and retrieval method considering geographical location on ubiquitous environment Mill:一种在泛在环境中考虑地理位置的信息管理和检索方法

To leverage location-related information is useful to get an in-depth perspective on environmental circumstances, traffic situations and/or other problems. To handle the large number of information and queries communication devices issue, some scalable mechanism must be required. In this paper, we propose a peer-to-peer network system called "Mill" which can efficiently handle information related to the geographical location. To simplify the management of the location related information, we convert two dimensional coordinates into one dimensional circumference. Using this technique, Mill can search information by O(log N). Some DHT networks achieve the same performance. However, DHTs support only exact match lookups. The exact match is not suitable for searching information of a particular region. Mill provides an effective region search, by which users can search flexibly location-related information from small regions to large regions

Wireless hotspots and broadband coverage are permeating the globe giving rise to interesting spontaneous networking scenarios. The discovery and delivery of the most relevant and suitable services in a spontaneous network is a problem of paramount importance. In this paper, we propose an architecture that can support context-aware service discovery and delivery for resource-constrained mobile devices. At the heart of the architecture is the muJini proxy which mediates the discovery and delivery processes. Its delivery subsystem provides thin-client based adaptation for fat service delivery that does not fit into thin client devices. To demonstrate its effectiveness, we developed a proof-of-concept prototype, focusing first on J2ME smart-phones

While networked devices have been proliferating in the home, the systems utilizing them typically operate in isolation from each other. This is partly due to the lack of a common framework that facilitates the exchange of information across these systems. Hence, we envision a home and person focused extensible event framework that provides a platform for dissemination, storage, and retrieval of events generated by such networked devices, and facilitates the extraction of high level semantics information through the application of event fusion algorithms. This will enable the delivery of personalized and relevant information to the users, and provide opportunities for new services activated by intelligent events

Compressed high definition television (HDTV) over IPv6 通过IPv6压缩的高清电视(HDTV)

In this paper, we introduce the compressed HDTV over IPv6 system, applications, and its experiment in IPv6 network between Korea and China. We developed the compressed HDTV over IPv6 system which requires 20-25Mbps with MPEG2. The system use 720/30p or 1080i HDTV format and support IPv4/IPv6 and unicast/multicast. The compressed HDTV system provides high quality audio and video with relatively small bandwidth comparing with uncompressed HDTV system, but it suffers about 1 second delay for MPEG2 encoding and decoding. Its high quality video and audio enables applications such as remote lecture/seminar with limited interaction. Using compressed HDTV system, we had two-way experiment which requires 40-50Mbps bandwidth in Gigabit IPv6 network in dual stack mode. This paper contains brief experiment result including jitter and packet loss. We expect practical application of compressed HDTV system such as remote lecture and seminar between Korea and China

Synchronization of RFID readers for dense RFID reader environments 密集RFID读写器环境下的RFID读写器同步

For a dense RFID reader deployment, such as in warehouse RFID deployment, where hundreds of antennas are positioned in a building, the interference between all these readers must be studied carefully to avoid severe reader collisions. Strict RFID regulations and standards have been imposed, trying to address the problem of reader collision and also the problem of RFID devices interfering with other devices operating in nearby frequency bands. However, these guidelines and regulations are not entirely friendly for dense RFID reader deployment, in some cases it is not possible to have a feasible RFID system while adhering to these regulations. Hence, this paper proposes the synchronization of RFID readers, to enable successful dense RFID reader deployment. A case study targeted at European operations is presented in this paper to visualise the actual synchronization of RFID readers in real life applications. Some fine-tuning methods are also suggested to further improve the performance of readers in a high reader density population area

This paper describes the implementation and evaluation of a method of multiple path distribution of traffic based on delay-jitter. Multiple path communication is designed to conform to the speed and reliability of wireless communication through the simultaneous use of multiple Internet link mobile hosts and by dispersing the traffic between mobile hosts and a correspondent host. The performance of the SHAring multiple path procedure for a cluster networK Environment (SHAKE) decreases due to out-of-order packets caused by delay-jitter. We implemented the mechanism to avoid decreasing performance by not using paths with large amounts of delay-jitter

HiQ is a hierarchical, online learning algorithm that finds dynamic solutions to the reader collision problem in RFID systems. When the transmissions from one reader interfere with the operation of another reader, a reader collision occurs. The objective of the reader collision problem is to minimize the reader collisions experienced by RFID readers while using the minimum number of frequencies and using the minimum total time for all readers to communicate successfully. HiQ attempts to minimize reader collisions by learning the collision patterns of the readers and by effectively assigning frequencies over time to ensure neighboring readers do not experience collisions from one another. HiQ is arranged hierarchically with distributed, local control. The algorithm is based on a type of reinforcement learning called Q-learning, which is used to determine frequency and time assignments. Through repeated interaction with the system, Q-learning attempts to discover an optimum frequency assignment over time. We show that HiQ finds optimal or near optimal solutions to the reader collision problem.

Positioning analysis of multiple antennas in a dense RFID reader environment 密集RFID阅读器环境中多天线的定位分析

The study and analysis of RFID antenna positioning is important for supply chain large-scale deployment. In a dense reader environment, there are multiples of RFID readers and readers interference reduces the reliability and efficiency of the RFID system. In the worst case, the interference would paralyse an entire RFID system. This paper explores antenna positioning in an RFID deployment zone and aims to provide guidelines on safe distance between antennas in a dense reader environment or even in a "listen before talk" regulated area. By planning of antenna positioning, a RFID system can be optimised and its interference to other RF systems in the surroundings can be minimised. All the simulations results presented in this paper are obtained using MATLAB
