: The Bolsonaro’s government has kept conflict and democracy as a constant element in public management, as in the relationship with branches of government. In the field of Rational Choice Theory, Schelling (1980) states that bargaining is part of dissuasion, taking place in the process of influencing the choices of the other player based on the generated expectations. Thus, the research question that guides this study is: Did the Bolsonaro government use the anti‑democratic threat as a bargaining tool? In this sense, to identify the situations of bargaining, threat, and promise, we conducted a qualitative analysis, through the creation of the Bolsonaro Threat and Bargain Database, composed of 470 movements from 1.1.2019 to 9.9.2019. 2021. Preliminary conclusions indicate that Bolsonaro mobilized threat as a bargaining strategy, threatening democracy and stressing the relationship between powers throughout analyzed period.

: After an eight‑year term in which the Partido de Acción Ciudadana was in command of the Executive, the 2022 presidential elections in Costa Rica yielded a surprising result with the victory of Rodrigo Chaves and the Partido Progreso Social Democrático. These elections prolonged a period of reconfiguration of the party system that goes back to the beginning of this cen‑ tury. Despite the singularity of these elections, the foundations of governance did not change: they were free, transparent, and orderly elections, the results of which maintained the multiparty conformation of Congress and reduced legislative support for the new administration. The electoral contest occurred in a scenario of reduced electoral participation, high volatility, and high un‑ certainty.

: This essay aims to discuss the notion of anti ‑ politics . Although the term is frequently used, its use is often associated with other notions from which it is not easy to distinguish it. The intention is to reflect on the con‑ cept and discuss its scope and relationship with other notions. The thesis that is intended to be argued is that anti‑politics is the antithesis of the peaceful management of the conflict and the difference in the framework of unequal and plural societies, which in its extreme forms, enables the annihilation of the other as a solution to the conflict. In this sense, it is incompatible with democracy. The paper concludes by suggesting some questions and possible lines of research.

: This article explores the rejection of democracy as a form of gov‑ ernment from classical to modern political theory, and how this rejection has resulted in more or less elitist versions that tend to distance the universality of the condition of electors in relation to the restrictions that operate on those who are elect. Versions of restricted republicanism, from Aristotle to Machi‑ avelli, are explored as a solution to the problems of demagogy
