The Rise of HR Analytics: Exploring Its Implications from a Developing Country Perspective 人力资源分析的兴起:从发展中国家的角度探讨其启示

Effectively managing human capital is critical to organizations today. This has strategic implications for businesses to gain competitive advantage. HR analytics has proven to increase HR’s contribution to the bottom line. The objective of the study is to investigate the implications of HR analytics in a developing country, Ghana. Adopting a qualitative approach to research and using a thematic analysis, Twenty (20) organizations were purposively sampled from public and private organizations in Greater Accra Region-Ghana. The study indicated that HR analytics makes employee sourcing meaningful towards employee performance and finally to increase productivity, and to retain talents for continuous growth and effectiveness. Most organizations do not use HR analytics and those that use it lack analytics competencies, management support, possess poor data and/or are unable to use analytical tools effectively. Though analytics is widely used in developed countries, developing countries are yet to glean the full benefits. It is recommended that educational and professional institutions review their course catalogues to include courses in HR analytics in training experts in the field. The great insights from the study will add up to existing literature on HR analytics and to provide a framework for organizations to design HR solutions to employee management challenges.

Modern Challenges of Human Resource Management Practice in Job Placement and Recruitment Within Organisations in the African Continent 非洲大陆组织内部人力资源管理实践在职位安排和招聘方面的现代挑战

The practice and implementation of Human Resource Management process has become under crossroad with other professions within an organisational structures. The roles of accountants, finance officers, auditors, registrars, and most directors are often seen in performing the responsibilities and functions of Human Resource Manager. Hence, the intriguing fact is that most Human Resource Managers are not well placed within the organizational structures. Besides, the placement and recruitment of HRM potentially professionals are limited within the organizational structure which creates more difficulties for the Human Resource Management discipline going forward. Hence, the purpose of this research is to theoretically discuss these challenges to ascertain recommendations that will follow this study. Several studies have shown how HRM is misapplied in certain institutions and sectors and that disrupts the general purpose of the profession. Another challenge that needs to be checked is the eminent diminishing of potential students and trainees in this sector due to lack of available jobs to equate the number of graduates from this sector discipline. The question that kept coming up is who is responsible for recruitment management and administration of staff? Is it the line managers in the various departments and other sectors or the HRM unit? If it is the HRM unit how is it the HRM duty and responsibility, especially when it comes to specialization of staffing issues? This study is a theoretical applied study of research based on constitutions, laws, polices and theoretical studies. It is important to cross examine how HRM role and function are applied or placed within public sector organisations and institutions especially, within the institutions of higher learning–universities structures. This of course may vary from country to country where such conflict of misplaced profession needs to be clarified by standards of HRM profession. These research findings are based on secondary and theoretical sources of data.

Intellectual Capital and Value Creation Process in Family Firm: A New Combined Model 家族企业智力资本与价值创造过程:一个新的组合模型

The purpose of this paper is to define a new combined model of business valuation for family firm, considering the implications of IC. The role of the family component in business valuation is condensed into the continuity of a trans-generational perspective. The question appears to be centred on the consistency of the familiness link with respect to the economic entity. In other words, it becomes essential to understand the provisional character of the proactive action of family members on business performance levels. After having discussed some of critical theoretical opinions on the peculiar aspects of family business—with particular attention to the relationship between the contribution of cognitive resources inferable from the familiness in the company management and the propensity to create value by the company itself—the aim is to find the most appropriate method to enhance the specificity of the family business and express the size of the equity value in a neutral and objective manner. The methodology is deductive; the integrated model is structured starting from the general framework of business valuation and then proceeds with its adaptation to familiness, intended as a particular attestation of IC. In this way, a new integrated model is made available for a subsequent step of empirical implementation and validation through its application in a family organization. The main advantage of this model is the ability to measure and manage IC and financial/non-financial performance. The added value of this work will enrich the academic literature regarding IC measurement systems in family firms; it also provides an original integrated model that is able to exhibit the advantages highlighted above.

Influence of Occupational Accidents Moderated By Occupational Health and Safety Policy Regulations on Performance of Firms in Kenya 职业健康安全政策法规所缓和的职业事故对肯尼亚企业绩效的影响

Performance in firms is an intricate affair and remains a major agenda in the corporate world. Researches have been carried out about factors that inform performance of firms, however the extent to which occupational accidents influence performance shaped by occupational health and safety policy regulations has received limited attention in the main stream firm researches. Occupational accidents in Kenya have witnessed an annual growth of 30% based on available statistics that continues to influence performance of firms negatively. The objective of this study was to establish the influence of occupational accidents on performance of firms in Kenya. The study was founded on two theories namely: Contingency theory and General Adaptation Syndrome theory. The study was anchored on Positivism and Interpretivism Paradigms realized by explanatory research design method. The target population was 2107 with a sample size of 414. Stratified, convenient and proportionate sampling techniques were used. Data was analyzed by descriptive statistics and partial least squares structural equation modeling aided by Warp PLS. v. 5 software. The findings showed that occupational accidents moderated by health and safety policy regulations to influence performance of firms at βeta coefficient of (β = -0.27, p = 0.020 < 0.05 Occupational health and safety policy regulation moderation effect was at β = -023, p = 0.04 < 0.05). The study recommends to the government and management of firms to incorporate occupational health and safety policy regulation in firms to mitigate occupational accidents hence influence performance of firms.

The aim of this study was to highlighting the approaches and challenges of motivating educational staff in Public Schools in Tanzania: The study draws some Insights from Morogoro Municipality; six public schools were selected in Morogoro Municipality. After selecting the Municipal, 55 teachers were selected and interviewed. Data collected were analyzed descriptively. Results show that the existence of various motivation packages in the educational sector ranging from cash facilities, free housing, and health services to meals service. However, limited funds, different workers’ desires, poor management, inadequate government motivation implementation strategies, limited motivation autonomy, and political intervention are found to be the challenges encountered in the course of motivating employees in the educational sector. Basing on these results, this study concluded that the process of motivating educational staff in public schools is still confronted by a number of challenges. The study therefore recommends that there is a need still to put more efforts in devising the solution to minimize the impact of such challenges. Therefore, if this recommendation is implemented, then then morally of educational staff would ultimately be realized.

Perceptions and Reality of Agro Forestry Practices in Oku, Cameroon 喀麦隆奥库农林业实践的认知和现实

Every farming engagement is geared at obtaining utmost output. Small scale farmers draw knowledge of sustainable agro forestry practices either from resource persons or institutions. Appropriately, practical farming processes are done at an individual scale with the intension of obtaining maximum outcomes. This matches with perceptions and reality of agro forestry commitment undertaken by local farmers. This study underscores the different agricultural techniques practiced in Oku. This write up explores information gathered from focus groups, clear-cut direct observation from sowing, weeding, harvesting and storage of produce, interview of local farmers, and spot visits to selected farms within the locale. The biophysical setting of the milieu favours the practice of agro forestry. Farmers’ perception and expectations were investigated using field data, statistical findings and interview results. Obtained results revealed the positive correlation existing between perceptions and reality in the quality, quantity and variety of outputs obtained at the end of the farming season. Local techniques harnessed with modern methods positively matches perceptions and reality in this domain.

Self-Entrepreneurship, Trade Culture and Domestic Economy: A Social Radiography of the Sharshari Traders in Dire Dawa 自我创业、贸易文化与国内经济:迪尔达瓦Sharshari商人的社会影像

This paper is an ethnographic research that tried to study former women merchants who use to trade in between Dire Dawa and Djibouti including small towns along the Ethio-Djibouti railway stations. Moreover, the paper introduces women cross border traders locally known as Sharshari. Here, family, educational and economic background of the traders are revealed, some ambivalent conceptions of the society on Sharshari trader are seen and last but not the least the central position of women traders at domestic activities appraised. The research further describes the domestic economy of those traders who use to trade in between Dire Dawa, Ethiopia and the city of Djibouti, Djibouti republic. Methodologically the research is crafted qualitatively. The views of 10 informants that include women traders; train drivers, local elders and former labor workers of the Sharshari traders are incorporated. The methods of data collections are also diversified in a bid to get more reliable, cross checked and deep empirical evidences. Hence, methods like interviews, observations, informal conversation, focus group discussions and participant observations are used to inquire and grasp information that are best fitting to the objectives of this research. Using the above mentioned methods, the research has got the following findings. Here, Sharshari trans-local traders were prominent traders who used to trade commodities in small town between Dire Dawa and Djibouti. Majority of the traders are uneducated. Most of them have learned the business from their families who use to generate income through such trading activities between small towns in the above mentioned small towns. Since Sharshari are women in gender, they had to execute different activities in their respective household.
