Do School Characteristics matter in Student-Teacher Performance in Teaching Practice? Empirical Evidence from Kenyan Public Universities 在教学实践中,学校特色对师生表现有影响吗?来自肯尼亚公立大学的经验证据

School attachment is an important component of teacher education. Public universities have thus designed their own rules and regulations regarding the schools they post their student teachers for teaching practice. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of school characteristics on student teacher performance in teaching practice in Kenyan public universities. This paper reports the findings of multiple regression analysis on the effect of school characteristics on student teacher performance in teaching practice in Kenyan public Universities using data collected from a random sample of 344 student teachers and 5 heads of school attachment units in public universities in Kenya using questionnaires, interview schedule and document analysis. The results of the multiple regression analysis indicate that all school status variables are statistically significant while the other school characteristics variables of school type and school category were not. However, the student’s attitude, commitment and confidence are important in explaining variations in student teacher scores in teaching practice. It is recommended that universities should post student teachers in model schools that provide adequate and varied environment such as national and extra country schools that enhances student teacher performance in teaching practice.

Effects of Federal Governance on Political Stability of Somalia 联邦治理对索马里政治稳定的影响

Although different researchers and authors focused on the federalism as a topic their findings have been primarily interested in whether the adoption of federalism is viable to Somali society and the understanding of the population toward the phenomenon. The purpose of this study was to examine the effect of federal governance on political stability in an enlightening way in order to gain the public perspectives on the issue as it is yet a newly practiced phenomenon. The specific objectives were to investigate Clan based Federalism and political stability, to determine the effect of applying federal system of governance on political stability; and finally, to analyze the challenges and opportunities of federal system of governance and political stability. Using non-mathematical sampling techniques the researcher selected a sample of 61 respondents to determine the effects of federal governance on political stability in Somalia. The researcher used SPSS to analyze data and interpret in to frequencies, percentages and tables. The study concluded that the constitution has been approved in 2012 and envisages the implementation of a federalist structure for the new Somali state, a solution that is facing a number of issues in the prickly Somali political environment and can help Somalia society tie together. Recommendations were derived as such In order for Somalis to reconcile their differences and build more legitimate, accountable and efficient states and governance, an inclusive bottom-up locally owned national peace building should be held inside the country to hammer out a comprehensive peace deal acceptable to all parties. Home-based conflict management mechanisms should be prioritized.

Workforce Diversity and Employee Performance: Ethnic and Socio-Cultural Diversity in Kenya 劳动力多样性和员工绩效:肯尼亚的种族和社会文化多样性

customer base, sales, and brand power among other measures. Organization has diverse workforce with challenges but a positive work force climate assist in performance of the organization. Educational level, gender and age are dimension of diversity in management of the organization. Diverse environment has resulted into job satisfaction, conducive working environment, effective management and high employee output. It has also enable organization put more effort in work which has increased its performance (Gacheri, 2012). Abstract Performance of employees in banks among other institutions has numerous human resource related issues. Workforce diversity has been a very critical issue in human resources due to increasing globalization. Organizations that want to remain competitiveness recognize that employing people with very diverse backgrounds with different capacities of thinking boosts their ability to stay ahead of the competition. Some of these key diverse characteristics in human resources includes age, race, social status, ethnicity, gender, education level, ability, religion, norms and believes. This paper discussed in detail all the aspects that affect organizations in terms of workforce diversity. The purpose of the paper was to investigate ethnic and social cultural diversity and its effects on the performance of the employees in ABC Bank. The study used Social Identity Theory and Social Categorization Theory. This research problem was solved through the use of a descriptive research design. The study focused on the middle and lower level management of ABC Bank Westlands. The research used census, all 71 employees were given questionnaires and data was collected using questionnaires. This was done using stratified sampling technique. This study collected both qualitative and quantitative data using self-administered questionnaires. Quantitative data collected was analyzed, using descriptive statistics, it was measured using mean standard deviation and percentages The results indicated that ethnic diversity through language, cultural diversity, norms and believe affected the accountability of service delivery. It also found that social classes, work group and age socio-cultural have affected number of customers served. The study concluded that work diversity through diversity in ethnic and socio-cultural affected the employee performance. The study recommended that ethnic equality should be encouraged by the government to ensure high employee performance. Further studies should be done on the diversity and strategic consensus as well as issues of group process and group thinking.
