A Fourier sine-series method is used to solve the differential equation, together with the boundary conditions, for the transverse vibrations of a thin rectangular cantilever plate. Frequencies of vibration and the corresponding nodal lines are calculated and plotted as functions of the ratio of sides for five symmetric and four antisymmetric modes. Because of the large number of calculations made, some interesting phenomena appear which have not previously been reported in the literature.

An analysis is presented for determining the collapse of circular nngs and long cylinders subjected to primary and secondary creep -conditions at elevated temperatures. The types of loading considered for the present investigation are dead loading and hydros ta t ic pressure-type forces. The method of solution is based on ^.n application of the variational theorem for creep described in Ref. 1 with some additional terms being introduced for the pressure-type loading case. The general results are reduced to a relatively simple form for the theoretical predictions of collapse time and are graphically illustrated for a typical sample material.
