Seed germination is an essential process for establishing lettuce growing areas. The use of cover crops can bring several benefits in crop production systems, however, some species can produce allelopathic compounds and cause negative effects for cultivated species. Thus, the objective of this work was to evaluate the allelopathic effects of extracts produced with different parts of sunn hemp and millet plants at different concentrations, on the germination and growth of lettuce seedlings. Lettuce seeds of the cultivar “Repolhuda Ano Todo” were used in this experiment. Neste contexto, é importante determinar se diferentes partes das plantas de cobertura podem causar efeitos alelopáticos nas diversas espécies cultivadas, para of millet and sunn hemp, parts of the plants were used: roots, leaves and inflorescences. The concentrations used were: 0, 25, 50 and 100%. The lettuce seed tests were: germination, germination speed index, length of roots and shoots, and dry mass of roots and shoots. The design adopted in each experiment was completely randomized (DIC), with a 3x4 factorial scheme (plant parts x extract concentrations), with 4 replications The results were submitted to analysis of variance, comparison of means, by the tukey test (plant parts), and regression (concentrations) analysis. It was possible to conclude that the extract of sunn hemp plants interferes in germination of lettuce seeds. Leaves and inflorescences extracts have greater negative interference on lettuce germination, compared to root extracts, however, there are few effects on seedling growth. Extracts from sunn hemp plants, at a concentration of 100%, reduce the germination and growth of lettuce seedlings, regardless of the part of the plant used to prepare the extract. The extract of millet plants interferes with the germination of lettuce seeds. The extract prepared with leaves has a greater allelopathic effect, compared to the root extract, on seed germination, however, with little interference in seedling growth. The concentration of extracts, regardless of the part of the plant used, reduces seed germination and seedling growth, with greater effects at the 100% concentration.

In the Brazilian orchards there is few genetic diversity of rootstocks, leaving the citrus fruit sector more susceptible to adverse biotic and abiotic factors, such as pests and diseases and sensitivity to water deficit, which cause decrease of productivity and fruit quality. The present study aimed to evaluate the initial growth of 24 Citrandarin hybrids rootstock ( Tangerina sunki vs. Poncirus trifoliata ), in a greenhouse at the “Sylvio Moreira” APTA Citrus Center by periodic measurements of plant height and stem diameter. The Citrandarins evaluated showed the same growth behavior in relation to plant height. There was increase in the average height of plants over time, making them suitable for the grifting process. The Citrandarins named 47, 152, 158, 232 and 304 did not show stem growth in the evaluated period. New studies are needed after the grifting in the main scion varieties in these citrandarins to verify the transmission of vigor, precocity, compatibility and others characteristic of economic interest for citriculture.
