In March 2023, the American Medical Association released “Errata and Technical Corrections—CPT® 2023,” which included technical corrections to the guidelines for evaluation and management (E/M) services. This article reviews those technical corrections and how they affect code selection.

It can be challenging to identify which procedures are included in an evaluation and management (E/M) service (eg, removal of sutures placed by another physician) and which are not (eg, eye examination with fluorescein dye without imaging). This article looks at some common procedural services that are and are not included in an E/M service.
