One of the most important elements in carrying out construction activities is the maintenance of the status of availability of construction materials at the construction site. If it fails to be prepared and maintained, the workers will not be able to perform their tasks. In fact, the motivation to perform a task will be lost and it will take a long time to return. Therefore, the objective of this paper is to identify the critical success factors of material availability at the construction site. A qualitative study in the form of interviews was conducted to thirty-eight construction contractors, including fifteen suppliers who met the selection criteria of this study. The results of the study revealed six critical success factors of material availability on the construction site. These factors include the contractor's current financial status; relationship (tolerance) between contractor and supplier; work planning and scheduling; good communication between main contractors and sub-contractors, and suppliers; availability of building materials in supplier's storage; and the availability of machines, machinery and trucks. All these critical success factors that have been obtained support the findings of previous studies in the context of the availability of materials at the construction site.

Quantity Surveyors all around the world have been adopting digital technologies due to their tremendous benefits. However, digitalization among quantity surveyors in Malaysia is slow due to low technology adoption. Therefore, this study aims to identify the barriers to digitalization in the quantity surveying profession and recommend strategies to minimize those barriers. A quantitative approach was applied with questionnaires serving as the data collection instrument. The questionnaires were distributed to 671 registered quantity surveyors in Malaysia, which were obtained through the random sampling method. About 134 of the response received and the findings were analyzed using descriptive analysis. Findings revealed the top four categories of barriers are: (1) financial constraints (2) lack of education (3) technical inadequacy and (4) time restrictions. A total of 11 strategies were proposed to minimize the respective barrier to increase the adoption of digitalization. Findings from this study provide insight into the barriers faced by the QS in implementing digitization, which lead to the proposal of strategies to embrace the change. The proposed strategy can act as a foundation for QS to prepare themselves, upgrading and planning the suitable step to thrive in tomorrow’s construction industry. The research has expanded the existing studies on digitalization in the quantity surveying profession, particularly in Malaysia, and assisted researchers, construction industry practitioners, and policymakers, especially in developing countries views.

It is no longer a contention as various scholars in the field of management and construction are in unison that the construction industry worldwide is a potent motivator that can induce the economic growth and development of any society. A key metric for evaluating the success of building projects around the world is timely delivery. According to earlier studies, building development projects in northern Nigeria encountered delivery schedule delays. To ensure efficiency in delivery time, this study adopts a survey that was created to evaluate sustainable practices impacting timely delivery of building construction project in Gombe state. Professionals who represented the clients, consultants, and contractors were given a total of 88 questionnaires at random, and the administration of the questionnaire received a response rate of 70.45%. The statistical software for social science was used to analyze the data and provide descriptive and inferential statistical metrics. The survey's resultsshowed that more than 70% of respondents had experienced delays in timely delivery of 1–12 months at most. The most significant sustainable practices influencing timely delivery of building projects with high relative index are the employment of skilled and competent labour; availability of materials; periodic monitoring, controlling, and updating of the progress of work; availability of effective supervision and management of staff; and availability of materials. The sustainable practices were further classified into: the economic, management, and motivational policy strategies, with a 33.30% cause-effect increase on timely completion of building construction projects. These facts lead the study to the conclusion that the problem of delays in building construction projects is obviously inescapable. Hence, this study recommends that: there should be concerted efforts in collaboration by various stakeholders involve in building construction project, and all necessary practices should be deployed towards improving timely delivery of building construction project.

The construction industry (CI) is the environment of the project, which is complex, fragmented, and dynamic in nature and involves many parties. It is proven that most of the problems in CI occur due to poor communication. Based on previous research, nonverbal communication (NVC) constitutes a large part of the communication process. However, the nonverbal side of communication and its influence on organizational outcomes is rarely put in the spot light of research. Therefore, this study aims to provide insight into clues and patterns of nonverbal behavior that correlate with leadership, performance, and productivity in a project setting. This study highlights the importance of attention to NVC in the construction sector.

Disputes arise during construction phases have a negative impact on the outcomes of projects. It is widely known from earlier studies that dispute is one of the factors contributing to the abandonment of building projects in Malaysia. Thus, there is a need to investigate the root causes of it because it leads to delay which affects the overall project performance and loss of money. The study on this research domain in Malaysian construction projects has only been conducted in the general context of the construction industry, without specializing in any specific type of projects or focusing on the phases of project. Hence, this paper aims to investigates the occurrences of dispute throughout the entire process of building construction project based on the traditional approach of project procurement, i.e., starting from the initiation stage until the defect liability period. This study was using systematic literature review and was conducted through searches of relevant publications from multiple electronic sources to review information using specific criteria. The results were presented in two major themes to serve as a theoretical base for the development of framework to minimise occurrence of construction dispute in building projects.

Poor project performance issues have been a problem in the construction industry. A large number of projects have failed to meet their goal as a result of the choice of procurement adopted. The traditional method is the commonly used procurement method in the construction industries of the world, and its sequential and linear nature has serious implications on project time, cost and quality baseline performance. The purpose of this study was to determine the impact of the traditional procurement system on construction project delivery. The specific objectives of this study were; to assess the influence of the traditional procurement system on construction project parameters, and to determine the factors responsible for the poor bottom lines of traditionally procure construction projects. This study was achieved using a structured questionnaire administered to construction experts using a purposive sampling method. With a reliability index of over 0.800, the data gathered were analysed using appropriate descriptive tools. It was found that projects delivered through the traditional procurement system have the greatest impact on project time parameters, more on cost and quality parameters. Also, poor time, cost and quality performance are caused by major factors such as rework, poor original planning/unrealistic scheduling, poor communication among project participants, lack of competent staff and inadequate proper training of available staff, and design and documentation issues. Project clients and consultants should be careful in project procurement selection to ensure that maximum value and goals are met

Appropriate project delivery method (PDM) is vital to ensure good performance of construction project. For decades, numerous researches have been conducted to develop a structured and descriptive decision-making framework for selecting an appropriate PDM. However, the adoption of structured and descriptive decision-making in selecting PDM in the construction industry is still understudied, especially in the Malaysian public sector. Thus, this paper attempts to investigate the practices and constraints of the Malaysian public sector in PDM selection for construction projects. This paper adopts an interpretive approach by conducting in-depth literature reviews of the numerous related researches, government policy and guidelines of PDM selection. This paper also assesses the effectiveness of the current PDM selection practices based on previous study findings and reports on PDM performance. Findings indicate that the traditional delivery method is prevalent PDM in most Malaysian public-funded construction projects. The Malaysian public sector has practised authoritarian and prescriptive decision-making governed by the government procurement guidelines in selecting PDM, which intentionally preserves political interests. Inappropriate PDM selection in project execution has produced an unconvincing performance by showing optimism bias on the expected outcome. The Malaysian public sector needs to improve the decision-making process by introducing a structured and descriptive PDM selection framework to derive better outcomes and convincing results. Thus, this paper is significant in improvising the decision-making mechanism in selecting appropriate PDM for the Malaysian public construction project.

Cost management practices have remained a vital aspect of project management functions. Despite the efforts of project management, construction projects are still being delivered above budget, with schedule overrun, poor quality and amongst other problems. Poor cost management approaches have been blamed for these problems. Effective cost management improves project performance and the strategic performance of construction organisations. This study aims to assess the role of cost management practice on construction firms' strategic performance in Nigeria. The objectives of the study are to determine the benefits of cost management of the project on the competitive position of construction firms, and the factors influencing cost management strategies of construction firms. This study adopted a well-structured questionnaire administered to construction professionals via electronic means and using snowball sampling technique in the six states of the south-south geopolitical zone of Nigeria. With a response rate of 65.48% and a reliability of index of over 0.70, the gathered data were analysed using frequency, percentage, and relative importance index (RII). It was found that major factors influencing construction cost management are; experience and competence of the project managers, weak management support and control, poor project communications, external economic environment, and lack of use of project management tools (technology). Also, effective cost management was found to play a critical role in the strategic performance of construction organisations; with most benefits being in the areas of waste and expenses reduction, improves operational efficiency need, helps to predict future expenses, ensures procurement effectiveness, and improve profit maximization. Project managers should continuously upgrade their skills for effective cost management to boost the strategic competitive position of their firms.
