The purpose of this study is to explore how the postmodern era may have altered the functioning of the Freudian super-ego. The aim of this paper is to create a discussion about which super-ego features may have disappeared, which may have been modified and which may have remained unaltered. Some of the hypotheses are illustrated through the discussion of the COVID-19 pandemic. The analysis suggests that postmodernity has modified aspects of the super-ego, promoting emancipation and the reduction of repression, while it generated uncertainty, new anxieties and an unconditional obligation to conform to unrealistic ideals of happiness and freedom.

This study examined the relationships between body image, personality, sex, body mass index, use of social networks, and income in undergraduate students. An online data collection was carried out with 398 students who answered a data questionnaire, the Situational Body Satisfaction Scale, and the Big Five Inventory-2. Correlational analyses indicated that Neuroticism was the most associated factor with body dissatisfaction. For the other personality factors, there were associations with body image and most of the dimensions of the Situational Scale, except for Agreeableness, which showed no relationship with body image. There were positive relationships between body image and lower body mass index, higher income, and lower use of social networks. In the network model, there were differences in the degree of association between the variables for men and women. The study points out clinically important variables for interventions with young people with body image distortion.

The present study investigated the cross-cultural mobility mental representations of a sample of forty-one academically talented Brazilians living in countries that offer opportunities to improve their talents. Technical-empirical instruments such as a demographic survey and a semi-structured interview script were used, and the Descending Hierarchical Classification Analysis (Iramuteq-Interface de R pour les Analyses Multidimensionnelles de Textes et de Questionnaires) was employed to compare the classes of words (clusters). Descriptive and inferential statistics (e.g., chi-square) with a 1 degree of freedom and 5% significance level were run as default. Results indicated an increase in the number of academically talented Brazilians going abroad over the last decade, with notable mobility triggers (e.g., development opportunities, quality of life, professional recognition) identified. As opportunities for these people are not always available in their countries, not migrating can represent an interruption in their talent development process, which extends throughout their life course. Cross-cultural mobility not only represents an exercise of personal agency or academic collaboration but also an escape from adverse social and political conditions.
